Introduction to the Rice Variety Shanyou 92-4

(1) Variety source: Shanyou 92-4 is a medium indica late-maturing hybrid rice combination developed by the Neijiang Hybrid Rice Science and Technology Development Center by crossing the self-bred restorer line 92-4 with Zhenshan 97A.

(2) Characteristics: The whole growth period is 149 days. The population is uniform, and the stems are thick and resistant to lodging. The seedlings grow vigorously, have strong tillering ability, a relatively compact plant type, good luxuriance, and a large panicle capacity; the leaves are medium-long, and the plants do not senesce early. Plant height is 110 cm, panicle length is 24 cm, average grains per panicle is 140, the panicle type is medium, seed-setting rate is 85%, and 1000-grain weight is about 28 g. Its resistance to rice blast is better than that of Shanyou 63, and its quality is medium.

(3) Yield performance: In the 1996 provincial regional trial medium-late group B and the 1997 provincial regional trial medium-late group A, the two-year average yield was 573.75 kg per mu, an increase of 2.61% over the control. In 1998, in production trials in Guangyuan, Dachuan, Leshan, Jiangyou, and Qianwei County, the average yield was 609.94 kg per mu, an increase of 9.08% over Shanyou 63.

(4) Cultivation points: ① Sow in mid-to-late March in southeastern Sichuan, in early April in northwestern Sichuan, and in early March in ratoon rice areas; seedling age 35-45 days. ② Plant 1.3-1.5 ten-thousand hills per mu, with two seedlings per hill. Control effective panicles at 17-19 ten-thousand panicles. ③ Use above-medium fertilizer and water management.

(5) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for planting in the flatland and hilly areas of our province.
