Detailed Introduction to the Rice Variety Shengtai 1
Shengtai 1 is a second-generation high-quality, super-high-yield, disease-resistant new variety bred by the Rice Research Institute of the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences through crossing the super-high-yield variety Shengyou 2 as the female parent with the Thai high-quality soft rice variety Taiyin 1.
Characteristics: Shengtai 1 has thick, upright leaves of a jade-green color, early emergence and early growth in the early stage, green branches and waxy sheaths in the late stage, good ripening color, ideal stem and leaf morphology and structure, a well-developed root system, fast elongation speed, deep and extensive distribution, strong vigor, no premature senescence, strong fertilizer tolerance and lodging resistance, and a good response to increased fertilization. It has relatively strong stress resistance and disease resistance, and strong cold resistance at the seedling stage in the early crop; in the field it shows resistance to rice thrips at the seedling stage; it is moderately susceptible to resistant to rice blast; it is moderately resistant to bacterial leaf streak. Its tillering ability is moderate and its ear-bearing rate is high, with generally 180,000 to 230,000 effective ears per mu; the ears are long and have many grains, with the general ear length above 23 cm and an average of about 150 grains per ear; under high-yield cultivation, the average ear length exceeds 25 cm, the main ear length exceeds 33 cm, the total grain number of the main ear exceeds 500, the seed-setting rate is above 85%, and the 1000-grain weight is about 23 g. Shengtai 1 has large ears and many grains and is tolerant to fertilizer and resistant to lodging. When planted in fields with medium or higher fertility, it easily exceeds 500 kg per mu in a single crop of double-cropping rice, and under high-yield cultivation its yield potential exceeds 700 kg/mu. When planted in the middle-rice region, its yield is higher than that of Shanyou 63 and significantly higher than that of ordinary high-quality conventional varieties.
This variety has been tested by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, and all 12 indicators reached the ministry-issued second-class high-quality rice standard or above, among which 7 main indicators reached the first-class high-quality rice standard, with an amylose content of about 18%.

Regions and Techniques: Shengtai 1 can be used as early, middle, and late rice. In Guangdong Province, the whole growth period is 128 days for the early crop and about 115 days for the late crop. When planted as middle rice in other provinces and cities of the southern rice region, its whole growth period is 2 to 5 days shorter than that of Shanyou 63. It belongs to the large-ear, many-grain, super-high-yield type of high-quality variety, and when planted in fields with medium-to-upper fertility it can better display its super-high-yield potential. Because it has the quality of high-quality conventional rice and also the yield potential of hybrid rice, it has broad prospects for promotion and application in both regions where conventional rice is mainly planted and regions where hybrid rice is mainly planted, and it is especially favored by the many farmers in the middle-rice region where indica and japonica rice are interlaced.
Cultivation Regulations:
1. It is suitable to sow at the end of February and the beginning of March and transplant around Qingming; for the late crop as middle-early maturing rice, it is suitable to sow in mid-July and transplant before Liqiu; in cultivation it adapts to sparse sowing and the cultivation of strong seedlings, with a basic population of 80,000 to 100,000 seedlings, 180,000 to 230,000 effective ears per mu, and a transplanting spacing of 20 cm x 20 cm or 23 cm x 20 cm.
2. On the premise of planting strong seedlings, apply early fertilizer early and heavily in the early stage to promote early, fast, and vigorous tillering and increase the average biological yield per stem during the vegetative growth period; create conditions to apply grain-preserving and grain-boosting fertilizer; determine the amount of fertilizer according to soil fertility conditions and yield targets, and pay attention to applying more organic fertilizer and to the proper combined application of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
3. After transplanting, use shallow water for reviving, thin water for tillering, and expose the field when there are enough seedlings, mainly with shallow exposure and light drying, striving to make the leaf color fade to pale green before young panicle differentiation. In the later stage, pay attention to good irrigation with running water and keep the field soil moist until maturity.
4. In areas with severe rice blast, pay attention to preventing and controlling rice blast. In short, according to the growth and development pattern of Shengtai 1, high-yield cultivation should adopt "medium population with high ear-bearing rate, promoting 'early growth' and deep roots, developing large ears and many grains, maintaining staying power, and striving for a high seed-setting rate and plump filling."
