Introduction to the Rice Variety Mingyue (formerly Jinyuan 47)

Variety source: Yuezhiguang / Zhongzuo 321 // Liaoyan 4

Characteristics: This variety is a conventional japonica-type rice variety. When grown in the Beijing, Tianjin and Tangshan region, its whole growth period is 176.9 days, 4 days later maturing than the control Zhongzuo 93. Plant height is 97.2 cm, total grains per panicle 112.5, seed setting rate 84.5%, and 1000-grain weight 26.8 g. Rice blast resistance is grade 3. Main rice quality indicators: head rice rate 69.1%, chalky grain rate 22%, chalkiness degree 2.2%, gel consistency 85 mm, and amylose content 16.7%.

Yield performance: In 2002, it took part in the regional trial of the Zhongzuo 93 group in the northern rice region, with an average yield of 599.2 kg per mu, 11.7% higher than the control Zhongzuo 93 (significant); in the 2003 continued trial, the average yield was 584.6 kg per mu, 7.2% higher than the control Zhongzuo 93 (highly significant); the two-year regional trial average yield was 591.9 kg per mu, 9.4% higher than the control Zhongzuo 93. In the 2003 production trial, the average yield was 568.9 kg per mu, 5.4% higher than the control Zhongzuo 93.

Key cultivation techniques: 1. Grow strong seedlings: sow at the same time as Zhongzuo 93 according to local planting practices, with a seedling age of about 45 days; 2. Transplanting: planting spacing of 27 x 18 cm or 30 x 15 cm, 13,000-15,000 hills per mu, with 3-4 seedlings per hill; 3. Fertilizer and water management: generally apply about 16 kg of pure nitrogen per mu, 6 kg of phosphorus pentoxide as base fertilizer, together with potassium fertilizer; water management should use shallow-water frequent irrigation, drain the field in good time, keep alternating wet and dry for 10 days after full heading, and stop irrigation 7 days before harvest; 4. Pest and disease control: pay attention to controlling rice false smut.

Approval opinion: Upon review, this variety meets the national rice variety approval standards and has passed approval. This variety has a somewhat late maturity, high yield, moderate resistance to rice blast, and excellent rice quality. It is suitable for planting in the single-season spring rice region of Beijing, Tianjin, and central and northern Hebei Province.
