How to cultivate Schisandra chinensis? Detailed explanation of planting methods and technical key points
Schisandra is divided into southern Schisandra and northern Schisandra, both belonging to the Magnoliaceae family. They are perennial deciduous herbaceous plants, and their roots, bark, and stems can all be used as medicine, with very high economic and medicinal value. The following introduces new techniques for cultivating Schisandra:
Seedling raising
First wash the fruit with water and remove the shriveled and thin fruits. In early February, soak the fruits in warm water for 3 days to 5 days, rub off the pulp, select plump seeds, then mix them with three times the amount of wet sand and bury them outdoors. The pit depth is about 0.6 m, and the diameter can be determined according to the amount of seeds. After piling them in, cover with a thin layer of rice straw, then cover with 20 cm of soil, and store them buried in sand for 2 months to 3 months. Sow when the radicle just emerges from the seed coat. Choose a well-drained, fertile, flat, and sunny location, apply sufficient base fertilizer, level the soil and preserve moisture, and make a seedbed more than 1 m wide. The sowing period is from April to May. For ease of management, drilling with a row spacing of 15 cm to 18 cm is preferable. After sowing, cover with 2 cm to 2.5 cm of soil and press lightly. Cover with grass and water to prevent drought. The sowing rate is about 5 kg per mu. Treated seeds can emerge 20 days to 30 days after sowing. At this time, remove the covering grass in batches, build a simple shade shed, and apply appropriate topdressing, watering, and loosening of the soil.
Transplanting
After two years of cultivation, the seedlings can reach a height of 1 m to 1.6 m. Transplant before buds sprout in early spring or after leaf fall in autumn. The row and plant spacing can be determined according to the trellis method. When using artificial trellises, usually position them according to the standard of a large row spacing of 1 m or a small row spacing of 0.7 m and a plant spacing of 0.5 m; if interplanted in a hawthorn seedling field, the hawthorn plants can be used as natural trellises, and good results can also be obtained.
Management
For fertilizing Schisandra, in addition to applying sufficient base fertilizer before planting, organic fertilizer and phosphate fertilizer should also be applied as topdressing every spring. To reduce nutrient consumption, prune appropriately during the winter dormant period, removing a large number of basal branches growing beside the roots and overly dense branches, so as to improve ventilation and light penetration and increase the number of fruits.
Pest and disease control
Between spring and summer, if leaf blight occurs in Schisandra, spray 1:100 Bordeaux mixture before the disease occurs or in the early stage of the disease for control; if leaf roller pests cause damage, use 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times dilution, or 50% phosphamidon emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times dilution for spray control.
