Introduction to the Characteristics of the Liaoyan No. 12 Rice Variety
I. Variety Origin
Bred by Panjin North Agricultural Technology Development Co., Ltd. in 1998. This variety is a japonica-type medium-late maturing high-quality rice selected from an M146 mutant. It was approved by Beijing in 2000.
II. Characteristics
When transplanted on June 21 in the Beijing region, it heads on August 13, with a whole growth period of 146 days, the same maturity period as Jinzhu No. 1. In Liaoning, the growth period is about 157 days, belonging to a medium-late maturing variety. The seeds have relatively strong germination vigor, the seedlings are relatively strong, the leaves are semi-erect and green, and the root system is well developed; it is tolerant to saline-alkali, drought-resistant, disease-resistant, and strongly resistant to low temperatures. It has strong tillering ability and a high percentage of productive tillers; the effective panicles per mu are about 250,000 in Beijing and 300,000-350,000 in Liaoning. The plant height is about 100 cm, the plant type is compact, the stems are tough, and it is resistant to lodging. In the early growth stage, the leaves are narrow and long and semi-erect; after maturity, the leaves are held upright, forming an upper-leaf panicle. It is a long loose panicle type, the panicle is about 20 cm, and the grain density is moderate; each panicle has about 100 grains, the seed-setting rate is about 90%, and the 1000-grain weight is about 25 g. The grains are yellow and long-elliptical, and the glume tips are yellow and awnless.
Disease resistance: Resistant to seedling blast and neck blast, relatively resistant to sheath blight and stripe virus disease, and moderately susceptible to bacterial leaf blight.
Quality analysis: brown rice rate 83.2%, milled rice rate 76.0%, head rice rate 74%, protein content 7.9%, amylose 18.4%, chalkiness degree 0.7%, chalky grain rate 7.0%, gel consistency 100 mm, gelatinization temperature (alkali spreading value) grade 7, transparency grade one, grain length 5.2 mm, grain length-width ratio 1.9. Except for the chalky grain rate and amylose, which are grade two, all the other 10 test indicators reach or exceed the national ministry-issued first-grade standard for high-quality japonica rice. This variety once won the '99 China International Agriculture @#@119@#@ International Famous Brand Product Award for High-Quality Rice Varieties.
III. Key Points of Cultivation Techniques
Seedbed: Thin sowing and dry seedling raising for strong seedlings.
Main field: In the medium-late maturing rice regions of Liaoning and North China, dry seedling raising with thin planting should be the main method, combined with tray seedling placement and seedling throwing; in the late maturing rice regions of North China, dry direct seeding or wheat-rice multiple cropping may be used; in the medium-late maturing rice regions of Northwest China, dry seedling raising with transplanting, seedling throwing, or seedling placement may be used. In late maturing rice regions, direct seeding may be used.
Fertilization requirements: Apply 60-70 kg of nitrogen fertilizer per mu (calculated as ammonium sulfate); 10-15 kg of phosphate fertilizer (calculated as diammonium phosphate); 10-15 kg of potassium fertilizer (calculated as potassium sulfate). Apply various microfertilizers such as silicon and zinc in combination.
Water management: Main field water management should combine deep, shallow, and dry conditions.
IV. Suitable Planting Areas
Suitable for planting in the medium-late maturing and late maturing rice regions of Liaoning, North China, and Northwest China.
