The new rice variety Liaojing 92-34 was developed by the Liaoning Provincial Rice Research Institute in 1992 through artificial hybridization and systematic selection, using 87-73 as the female parent and 87-337 as the male parent. This variety has the characteristics of high yield, good quality, early maturity, and strong resistance. It was approved by the Liaoning Provincial Crop Variety Committee in 2002. Characteristics: At the seedling stage, the leaves are dark green and the seedlings are robust. After transplanting, the seedlings recover quickly, tiller profusely, and have upright leaves with a suitable angle to the stem. Each panicle has 100-110 grains, and the 1000-grain weight is about 23g. In the Shenyang area, the growth period is 1

In the Shenyang area, the growth period is 155-157 days. It is generally sown in early April, transplanted in early to mid-May, heads in early August, and matures at the end of September, belonging to the medium-maturity variety. Joint disease resistance identification conducted by institutions within the province and the China Rice Research Institute showed resistance to rice blast and bacterial leaf blight, with only mild sheath blight, and strong drought resistance and lodging resistance. According to analysis by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the brown rice rate is 82.5%, the milled rice rate is 74.5%, the head rice rate is 72.7%, the grain length-to-width ratio is 1.7, the chalkiness rate is 4%, the chalkiness degree is 0.5%; the transparency is grade 1, the alkali spreading value is grade 7.0, the gel consistency is 72mm, and the amylose content is 15.7%. All nine indicators meet the Ministry-issued first-grade high-quality rice standards.

Yield performance: In the 1998 in-house variety comparison trial, the average yield was 635.7kg/mu, an increase of 12.0% over the control Tiejing 4. In the 1999 in-house variety comparison trial, the average yield was 604.5kg/mu, an increase of 9.5% over the control Tiejing 4. The average yield of the 1998-1999 two-year variety comparison trial was 620.1kg/mu, an increase of 10.8% over the control Tiejing 4. In the 2000 regional trial, the average yield was 575.9/mu, an increase of 8.9% over the control Tiejing 4, ranking second in yield. In the 2001 regional trial, the average yield was 633.6kg/mu, an increase of 8.5% over the control Liaojing 207, ranking first. The average yield of the two-year regional trial was 604.8kg/mu, an increase of 8.7% over the control, ranking first. In the 2001 rice production trial, the average yield was 647.1kg/mu, an increase of 7.7% over the control Liaojing 207 (average yield 600.9kg/mu).

Suitable areas: Based on the results of regional trials, production identification, and large-scale demonstration plantings in Liaoning Province, it can be planted in Shenyang, Tieling, Kaiyuan, Liaoyang, Jinzhou, and other places, and can also be planted in some rice-growing areas in Beijing, Tianjin, Ningxia, **, and Jilin.

Cultivation key points:

1. Sparse sowing for strong seedlings: Strictly disinfect the seeds to prevent bakanae disease. Generally sow in early April at a seeding rate of 150-200g per sq m. Ventilate and harden the seedlings in a timely manner to cultivate strong seedlings with tillers.

2. Reasonable sparse planting: Row spacing 30cm x 13.3cm or 30cm x 16.5cm, with 3-4 seedlings per hill.

3. Scientific fertilization: This line has thick stems and is relatively tolerant of fertilizer and resistant to lodging. Apply a balanced formula of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, silicon, and zinc. Over the entire rice growing season, apply 60-65kg of standard ammonium nitrogen per mu. First apply sufficient basal fertilizer; generally apply 20kg of ammonium sulfate and 10kg of diammonium phosphate per mu, or 50kg of calcium superphosphate, 7-8kg of potassium fertilizer, and 1-1.5kg of zinc fertilizer. The fertilization principle is heavy early and light late; apply more in the early stage to promote tillering, and in the later stage apply fertilizer according to the rice growth condition, soil fertility, and climatic conditions to prevent the occurrence of rice false smut and panicle neck blast.

4. Water management: Irrigation should mainly be shallow flooding. At the late tillering stage, appropriately drain the field for sun-drying. After heading, mainly use intermittent irrigation alternating shallow, wet, and dry conditions. Do not cut off water too early in the late growth stage to prevent premature senescence.

5. Pest and disease control: From late June to early July, use Daofengling or Shachongshuang to control the striped stem borer. From 7-10 days before heading, using copper complex ammonium or DT fungicide to control rice false smut gives better results. To control rice blast, apply 75-100g of 40% Fuji No. 1 per mu diluted in 40-50kg of water as a spray, used 3-4 days before heading; in areas with more severe disease, spray several more times.
