Brief Introduction to the Rice Variety Lianjing 2 (formerly known as Lian 8671)
Breeding institution: Lianyungang City Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Jiangsu Province.
Approval status: approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1997, and by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1999.
Variety approval number: Guoshendao 990021.
Variety source: Taiwan rice.
Characteristics: a medium-maturing conventional mid-season japonica rice variety, plant height 105 cm, seedlings erect and relatively sturdy, leaves relatively narrow, leaf color light green, plant type compact and upright, flag leaf short and small, held upright and level with the panicle, main stem 5-6 nodes, total leaves on the main stem 15-16. The panicle is neat, semi-erect, some with short awns, 117 grains per panicle, panicle length 16.17 cm, seed setting rate above 90%, grains oval, light yellow, glossy, some with cracks after maturity, 1000-grain weight 27-28 g. Good ripening appearance, green stems and yellow grains. Brown rice rate 85.2%, milled rice rate 78.2%, head rice rate 71.9%, chalkiness 6.4%, transparency grade 1, amylose content 148%, protein content 8.7%. Whole growth period 154-155 days. Good yielding ability, relatively large panicle type, resistant to bacterial leaf blight, susceptible to rice blast, good salt tolerance. In the two-year regional trial of the northern mid-season japonica medium-maturity group from 1994 to 1995, the average yield per mu was 632.3 kg, an increase of 13.7% over the control variety Sidao 9.
Cultivation points: Carry out chemical seed treatment before sowing to prevent bakanae disease. Generally sow in early May, seedling age 35-40 days, sowing rate per mu not exceeding 30 kg. Transplanting density 20,000-25,000 hills per mu, with 3-4 seedlings per hill. Pay attention to controlling rice blast, sheath blight, rice leaf roller and other pests.
Suitable range: cultivation in areas of the Huang-Huai River basin where rice blast occurs lightly.
