Detailed introduction to the rice variety Lian 9805
Lian 9805 was bred by the Lianyungang City Agricultural Technology Extension Center in 1995 through crossbreeding the high-yield, disease-resistant line H408 with the Japanese premium variety Gekkou. It entered the Lianyungang City variety comparison trial in 2000, and in 2001 took part in the national regional trial organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, where it showed high yield, good quality and strong resistance. In 2002 it exceptionally joined the production trial and was listed by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry as a key project of the province's three agricultural programs and a key demonstration and extension variety for the Huaibei region.
1. Main characteristics.
1. Yield level. 130-150 grains per panicle, 90% seed-setting rate, 1000-grain weight 26 g, suitable number of panicles per mu 220,000-240,000. Average field yield is generally around 700 kg per mu; in the 2002 national northern rice regional trial, the average yield was 627.8 kg per mu; in large-scale demonstration fields, the 500-mu high-yield field at Dongxin Farm had an actual yield of 805 kg per mu; the 600-mu field at Gangbu Farm had an actual yield of 790 kg per mu, both setting the highest local levels for conventional medium japonica rice production.
2. Resistance. After years of trials, this variety has shown good resistance to rice blast and bacterial leaf blight, with only mild occurrence of sheath blight. It has strong lodging resistance.
3. Growth period. This variety has a total of 17-18 leaves over its life cycle, 5 elongated internodes, and a whole growth period of about 150 days, maturing 3-4 days earlier than Zaofeng 9. At maturity the main stem still has 3-4 functional leaves, with green stems and yellow panicles, and good maturity appearance.
4. Plant type. This variety has a plant height of about 100 cm, tillers quickly at the seedling stage, has medium tillering ability, grows vigorously throughout the growth period, has a compact plant type, and its leaves are upright and firm, not drooping.
5. Quality. According to testing by the Quality Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, of twelve indicators, ten reached the national standard first-grade premium rice standard and two reached the second-grade standard. In 2001, the National Agricultural Technology Extension Center took samples from multiple sites for testing, and the grain quality all reached second-grade rice or above, with the best quality stability among the tested varieties.
2. Cultivation points
1. Sow at the right time and cultivate strong seedlings. The best sowing time is in early May, seedling age 35-40 days, and the seedling-to-field ratio is about 1:7. Before sowing, the seed must be soaked with Jun Chong Qing or Exianling to prevent bakanae disease and white-tip nematode disease. During the seedling stage, attention should be paid to controlling rice thrips and rice planthoppers.
2. Transplant at the right time and plant at a reasonable density. Plant 22,000-25,000 hills per mu, with 80,000-100,000 basic seedlings per mu, to obtain the ideal yield.
3. Rational fertilizer management. Lian 9805 is a fertilizer-tolerant variety; apply heavy basal fertilizer, early tillering fertilizer, and appropriately delayed panicle fertilizer. Over the whole growth period, apply 22-24 kg of pure nitrogen, 12-14 kg of phosphorus pentoxide, and 18-20 kg of potassium oxide per mu.
4. Scientific water management. Shallow water for transplanting, deep water for seedling establishment, thin water for tillering, and alternate wetting and drying in the later stage; do not cut off water too early.
5. Integrated control of diseases, insects, and weeds. Focus on the control of pests and diseases such as stem borers, rice planthoppers, sheath blight, and rice blast.
