Introduction to the Characteristics and Traits of the Rice Variety Leyou No. 2

(1) Variety source: Leyou No. 2 was developed by the Leshan City Seed Farm and Leshan City Seed Company by crossing the self-bred restorer line C3-2 with Gang 46A.

(2) Characteristics and traits: The full growth period is 149.6 days, 0.6 days longer than the control. Tillering ability is moderate, the plant type is relatively compact, and the leaves are upright; the top three leaves are relatively wide, dark green, and have good luxuriance. Plant height is 110 cm,, panicle length is 24.8 cm, average grains per panicle is 167.9, seed setting rate is 79.8%, and 1000-grain weight is 27.8 g. Its resistance to rice blast is superior to Shanyou 63, and its quality is moderate.

(3) Yield performance: In the 1996 provincial regional trial medium-late B group and the 1997 provincial regional trial medium-late A group, the average yield per mu was 564.26 kg, an increase of 2.01% over the control. When planted in five counties including Renshou, Meishan, Emei, Jingyan and the Shizhong District of Leshan City, the average yield per mu was 596.21 kg, an increase of 7.2% over Shanyou 63. From 1995 to 1998, more than 3000 mu were organized for demonstration, with yields ranging from 572-641 kg, an increase of 5.32-15.1% over Shanyou 63.

(4) Key cultivation points: 1. Sow around Qingming, with a seedling age of about 40 days, sowing rate of 1-1.5 kg per mu, wide-narrow row, double-plant cultivation, and 14000-16000 hills per mu. Apply heavy basal fertilizer with farmyard manure, increase P and K fertilizer, supplement zinc fertilizer, and appropriately supplement panicle fertilizer. 2. Manage water scientifically, dry the field at the proper time, and control pests and diseases in a timely manner.
