Introduction to the Characteristics of the Potato Variety Plateau No. 7
Variety source: In 1967, the Qinghai Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences crossed "Plateau No. 4" as the female parent with "Plateau No. 3" as the male parent; it was bred and named in 1972, began to be promoted in 1973, and in 1978 was approved by the Qinghai Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee for continued promotion.
Main traits: plant type upright, plant height about 80cm, stems green with strong growth vigor; leaves green, compound leaves large, with 4-5 pairs of lateral leaflets; inflorescence peduncle light green, corolla white, stamens yellow, stigma 3-lobed, pedicel articulation colorless, naturally sterile: tubers oval, yellow skin and yellow flesh, skin smooth, tubers large and uniform, tuber set concentrated; semi-light-sprouted young sprouts oval at the base, purplish red, blunt at the tip, light purple, tuber dormancy period extremely short, storage tolerance medium. Medium-late maturing, growth period about 120 days; steaming eating quality medium; processing quality: dry matter 20.9-29%, starch 14.2-18.3%, reducing sugar 0.2%; crude protein 1.53%, vitamin C 7.7mg/100g; lightly susceptible to late blight, relatively resistant to ring rot, relatively tolerant to waterlogging; in irrigated land on the Northwest Plateau, the yield per 667 sq m is 2500-3000kg, with high yields reaching 4000kg, and in dryland 1500-2000kg.
Suitable planting areas: mainly distributed in Qinghai, Gansu, and Ningxia, and also cultivated in Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan, and other places.
Key points of cultivation techniques: This variety is high-yielding and sets tubers early, requiring plots with base fertilizer and good water and fertilizer conditions, and early field management; the plants are sturdy, suitable for planting in equal row spacing, with a density in irrigated land of 3300-3500 plants per 667 sq m and in dryland 3500-3800 plants per 667 sq m; the tuber dormancy period is extremely short, suitable for cultivation in double-cropping regions, and pre-sowing sprouting treatment is needed to break dormancy and promote uniform emergence; the tuber skin is thin, easily injured, and slow to heal, so care should be taken to reduce bruising during harvest and transport.
