New Potato Variety in Longshan Can Boost Farmers' Income

Longshan County in Hunan Province, based on geographical conditions and market development prospects, has actively guided its county agricultural development company to introduce the "Atlantic" potato from Gansu. Trial planting has shown that this potato variety is of superior quality, low in sugar content, and high in starch, and is well favored by the market.

To promote it on a large scale, the county has actively implemented the "company + base + farmers + market" model to develop the industry, and carried out the "three supplies and two guarantees" support measures, namely supplying seed, fertilizer, and pesticides, and guaranteeing technology and market. This year, a potato base of 1,000 mu was developed, producing 1,800 tons and realizing @#@136@#@ income of 1.5 million yuan.

At present, some large enterprises have already booked purchase and sales contracts for next year; among them, Pepsi Group has booked 2,000 tons, and Shanghaojia Company has also sent dedicated personnel to discuss ordering business. This year, more than 1,100 farming households in Zhaoshi Town, Nongche Township, and Ciyantang Town of Longshan County planted potatoes through preferential measures, increasing income by more than 500 yuan per mu compared with previous years.
