Breeding institution: Jilin City Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Jilin Province.

Approval status: approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2000.

Variety approval number: Guoshen Dao 20000012

Variety source: Zhuangnei 324 / Tengxi 138.

Characteristics: conventional japonica rice variety. Plant height about 105 cm, compact plant type, erect leaves, 14 leaves on the main stem, flag leaf slightly long and erect, stems hard and elastic, strong tillering ability, effective panicles per mu 387,000, main tillers and panicles uniform. Large panicles with many grains, panicle length about 20 cm, average grains per panicle about 120, seed setting rate 86.9%, primary branches relatively numerous, secondary branches relatively few. Grains oval, glumes and glume tips yellow, with intermittent awns, 1000-grain weight about 27 g. Head rice rate 63.1%, chalkiness degree 13.3%, amylose content 17.2%; the whole growth period in Jilin Province is about 153 days, similar to "Qiuguang". Shows high and stable yield, moderate resistance to rice blast, medium grain quality. In 1998 it participated in the national northern rice region Qiuguang maturity group regional trial, with an average yield of 698.8 kg per mu, 8% higher than the control Qiuguang; in the 1999 continued trial the average yield was 691.8 kg per mu, 10.7% higher than the control Qiuguang; in the 1999 production trial the average yield was 687 kg per mu, 3.6% higher than the control Qiuguang.

Cultivation points: sow in early April in Jilin Province, transplant around May 20. For tray seedling raising, sow 50-60 g of pregerminated seed per tray; for dry seedling raising, sow 100-200 g of pregerminated seed per sq m. Transplanting spacing 30 cm x (20-23) cm, 2-3 seedlings per hill. Apply about 10 kg pure nitrogen per mu, applied in four applications at a ratio of 4:3:2:1 as basal, tillering, supplementary and panicle fertilizer; phosphorus and potassium 5 kg each applied once as basal fertilizer; irrigation mainly shallow, alternating wet and dry, and intermittent irrigation after heading.

Suitable range: for cultivation in the northern "Qiuguang" maturity rice-growing region.
