Jingchuyou 148 is a hybrid late rice variety developed by the Jingzhou Seed Company by crossing the male sterile line "Jingchu 814A" with the restorer line "R148". It was approved by the Hubei Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2002 (variety approval number 017-2002), and in 2003 was designated by the Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture as a main recommended variety. The variety participated in the Hubei Provincial hybrid late rice variety regional trials in 2000-2001. In the 2000 regional trial, it showed obvious advantages in rice quality, yield, growth period, comprehensive agronomic traits and other aspects.

In the 2000 regional trial, it showed obvious advantages in rice quality, yield, growth period, comprehensive agronomic traits and other aspects, and was designated by the National Agricultural Technology Extension Center as a "2001 national-level new variety for display" for display, performing outstandingly among 10 national-level late rice display varieties; it performed outstandingly in the 2001 regional trial, passed approval on February 1, 2002, and was designated by the National Agricultural Technology Extension Center as a "2002 national-level demonstration new variety" for demonstration, showing high quality and high efficiency through large-scale demonstration; in 2003 it continued to be designated a national-level demonstration new variety and was demonstrated and promoted over a wider range.

Through three consecutive years of trial evaluation, display and demonstration verification of Jingchuyou 148, we have gained the following understanding of this variety:

Quality and yield: The rice quality was measured by the Food Quality Supervision and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, with a brown rice rate of 80.5%, a head rice rate of 61.7%, a grain length-to-width ratio of 3.1, a chalky grain rate of 27%, a chalkiness degree of 2.4%, an amylose content of 21.6%, and a gel consistency of 59 mm; the main physicochemical indicators reached the national quality standard for high-quality paddy. The two-year regional trial average yield was 506.3 kg per mu, an increase of 7.31% over the control variety Shanyou 64. Of this: in 2000 the yield was 487.52 kg per mu, an increase of 8.43% over Shanyou 64, reaching an extremely significant level; in 2001 the yield was 525.80 kg per mu, an increase of 6.28% over Shanyou 64, reaching an extremely significant level. In 2001, trial planting and display in Shishou, Xishui and other places gave an average yield of 564.3 kg per mu, an increase of 10.32% over Shanyou 64. In 2002, 754.5 mu were demonstrated in Shishou, with an average yield of 536.0 kg per mu, an increase of 8.9% over Shanyou 64, reaching an extremely significant level.

Characteristics and traits: This variety is a medium-maturing indica-type late rice. The plant type is moderate, the stems are thick and strong, the leaf color is light green, and the flag leaves are upright. The tillering ability is moderate, and the growth vigor is relatively strong. The panicles are large with many grains, and the late-stage ripening appearance is good. In the regional trials, the effective panicles per mu were 220,000, the plant height was 96.3 cm, the panicle length was 22.6 cm, the total grains per panicle were 121.9, the filled grains were 99.8, the seed-setting rate was 81.9%, and the 1000-grain weight was 25.94 g. The whole growth period was 117.2 days, 1.6 days shorter than Shanyou 64. Disease resistance identification showed susceptibility to bacterial leaf blight and high susceptibility to rice blast at the panicle neck.

Cultivation points: 1. Sow at the right time and transplant in time. Sow from June 15-20, with a seeding rate of 10 kg per mu in the seedling bed and 1.5-2.0 kg per mu for the field; the seedling age is 25-30 days, and overly long seedling age tends to cause premature heading. 2. Reasonable close planting. The row spacing is 13.3 cm * 20.0 cm, with 2 grains of seedlings per hill, and 150,000-180,000 basic seedlings per mu. 3. Reasonable fertilization and scientific water management. Apply 12 kg of pure nitrogen, 6 kg of phosphorus pentoxide, and 9 kg of potassium oxide per mu; all phosphate fertilizer as base fertilizer, 70% of nitrogen fertilizer as base fertilizer and 30% as topdressing. Irrigate frequently with shallow water and drain the field in time to control tillering; do not cut off water too early in the later stage. 4. Pay attention to pest and disease control. Control rice thrips at the seedling stage, and control stem borers and rice planthoppers in the field, with special attention to controlling the yellow stem borer; focus on controlling rice blast at the breaking and heading stage and the full heading stage. 5. Harvest at the right time and thresh mechanically to ensure paddy quality.

Suitable planting range: Suitable for planting as late rice in rice blast-free areas and lightly affected areas in Hubei Province.
