Introduction to the Characteristics of the Jijing 14 Rice Variety
The super-high-yield japonica rice new variety Jijing 14 (90-3) is an excellent new variety combining high yield, disease resistance, high lodging resistance, and superior grain quality.
Characteristics: In the Hebei Provincial regional trials and large-area demonstrations, this variety's average yield per mu exceeded the control by more than 15%, with a general yield of 750 kg per mu. In 1993, this variety was selected to implement Hebei Province's "Harvest Cup" high-yield program. On-site expert threshing verification showed that the average yields per mu of two high-yield fields (over 2 mu each) were 907.9 kg and 918.7 kg respectively. Among them, 918.7 kg exceeded Hebei Province's original rice yield record by 132.1 kg, and upon novelty search, it was the world's highest recorded yield per unit area for a japonica-type rice variety.
The whole growth period of this variety is 170-175 days, plant height 100-105 cm, strong tillering ability, average 120 grains per panicle, 1000-grain weight 28 g, dark green leaf color, erect flag leaves, thick and sturdy stems, high resistance to lodging, resistance to rice blast and bacterial leaf blight. Brown rice rate 83.81%, milled rice rate 75.25%, head rice rate 74.12%, amylose content 14.42%, good transparency, and excellent eating quality.
Region and Technology: Jijing 14 is a medium-maturity, medium-early maturing conventional japonica variety. It can be cultivated as a single-season crop south of the Great Wall, and as a wheat-stubble rice crop in the central and southern regions of Hebei Province. It can be planted in Dandong, Liaoning, Henan, Shandong, and other places. Currently, this variety has been trial-planted in 14 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions.
