How effective is the Jiaduo frequency-vibration insect-killing lamp at trapping and killing the rice stem borer?
The rice stem borer is one of the important pests in rice production in Wuchang City. In recent years, with changes in rice varieties and warming climate conditions in our city, the occurrence and damage of the rice stem borer have become increasingly serious. According to this autumn's survey, for certain varieties in Wuchang, the average number of insects per 100 steps per mu reached more than 20,000, with the highest in key outbreak areas reaching 60,000, and in some cases more than 100,000. Such insect numbers are rare in history, whether domestically or abroad. In order to further control the damage of the rice stem borer, explore new approaches to its control, and reduce pesticide pollution of rice. This year our city set up a Jiaduo vibration-frequency lamp trial for controlling the rice stem borer at Sun Guanghao's field in Lianhua Village, Wuchang Town, and achieved good trial results. The trial results are summarized as follows:
I. Materials and Methods
Jiaduo vibration-type insect-killing lamp: provided by Henan Tangyang Jiaduo Science, Industry and Trade Co., Ltd. The model is PS-15, with a power of 30W. Lamp installation began on June 20, with a trapping and killing area of 60 mu. The lamp was switched off during the day and on at night, all controlled by a photosensitive current switch. A designated person recorded the number of trapped and killed rice stem borer adults every day, regularly investigated the changes in moth numbers after trapping and killing, and in autumn investigated the field control effect on rice stem borer larvae.
II. Trial Results
1. Trapping and killing effect on rice stem borer adults. The Jiaduo frequency-type insect-killing lamp had a good trapping and killing effect on rice stem borer adults. This year, from lamp installation to the end of rice stem borer egg-laying, Sun Guanghao's household trapped and killed a total of 852 rice stem borer adults, of which the ratio of female moths was 3.7:1. The female-to-male ratio of moths trapped and killed by the Jiaduo frequency-vibration insect-killing lamp was higher than the female-to-male moth ratio in the field. The female-to-male moth ratio in the field was 1.8:1. From the trapping and killing of adults, it can be seen that the number of rice stem borer adults in the field can be significantly reduced. According to observations at the end of June when rice tillering fertilizer was broadcast, within the effective control area of the Jiaduo frequency-vibration insect-killing lamp, the rice stem borer adults startled by broadcasting fertilizer numbered at most a few per mu, whereas in the non-effective area, each handful of fertilizer broadcast startled 3-5 rice stem borer adults, with more than 7-8 in some cases, and more than 10 in severe cases, averaging 40-50 rice stem borer adults startled per mu (visual count of startled moths).
2. The Jiaduo frequency-vibration insect-killing lamp can reduce the field egg load of the rice stem borer. This year, within the effective control area of Sun Guanghao's insect-killing lamp in Lianhua Village, the field egg load was only 1/10 to 1/20 of that in the non-control area. A survey on July 5 found that within the control area, the closer to the lamp, the more egg masses; but in the park area with the lamp as the center and a radius of 100 m, there were on average 0.137 egg masses per sq m, while outside the control area there were 1.49 egg masses per sq m.
3. The Jiaduo frequency-vibration insect-killing lamp effectively controls the field occurrence of rice stem borer larvae. According to a survey on September 30, within the control area of the Jiaduo frequency-type insect-killing lamp there were 0.125 rice stem borers per sq m, while in the non-control area, 120 m away from the insect-killing lamp, where the variety was Wuyoudao No. 1 in both cases, both belonged to Sun Guanghao's land (Sun Guanghao's household grows 16 shang of rice), and the fertilization level and rice growth were basically the same, there were 0.7 rice stem borer larvae per sq m. The control effect reached 69.3%.
The lamp installation trial shows that the Jiaduo frequency-vibration type has a good insect-killing effect on the rice stem borer. The effect can reach 69.3%. The use of insect-killing lamps can reduce the pressure of chemical control, avoid environmental pollution, and enable the production of green food rice. Moreover, installing the lamp is simple, the cost is not high, the electricity fee is less than 3 jiao per day, and operation is convenient, so it is well received by the majority of farmers.
