Characteristics: a conventional early indica rice variety, plant height 80-85 cm. Seedlings are light green, relatively cold-tolerant at the seedling stage, with wide flexibility in seedling age. Grains are medium-long, awnless, colorless at the glume tip, with yellow glumes bearing brown spots. Effective panicles per mu are 259,000, panicle length 18.9 cm, panicle layer uniform, total grains per panicle 97.2, seed-setting rate 74.7%, 1000-grain weight 25.5 g. Head rice rate 35.8%, chalkiness degree 10.9%, amylose content 11.6%. The average whole growth period is 109.2 days. Plant type is moderately compact, stems are thick and sturdy, strongly fertilizer-tolerant and lodging-resistant, tillering ability is medium, yield is relatively high, and yield stability is good. Grain quality is relatively good, with good appearance quality. Moderately resistant to bacterial blight, susceptible to rice blast. In 1998, it was entered in the national southern rice region early indica early-to-medium maturity group regional trial, with an average yield of 453.56 kg per mu, 9.9% higher than the control Zhe 852; in the 1999 continued trial, the average yield was 406.04 kg per mu, 7.3% higher than the control Zhe 852; in the 1999 production trial, the average yield was 399.13 kg per mu, 0.52% higher than the control Zhe 733.

Cultivation points: For seedling raising under protected conditions in Zhejiang, sow around March 25; for open-field seedling raising, sow around April 5. Seedling age about 30 days, no more than 35 days at most. Sowing rate per mu in the seedling field is 50-60 kg. General row spacing is 15 cm x 13 cm or 16.5 cm x 12 cm, with 3 seedlings per hill, and 100,000 basic seedlings established. Strengthen fertilizer and water management. Total fertilizer application should be controlled at 2750-3000 kg of standard fertilizer; apply sufficient basal fertilizer, apply topdressing early, and apply panicle fertilizer properly according to seedling condition, carry out field drying and roasting in a timely manner to control ineffective tillering, and alternate wetting and drying after full heading until maturity.
