Introduction to the Characteristics and Traits of the Jinyou 207 Rice Variety

Breeding unit: Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center crossed Jin 23A with Xianhui 207, bred in 1995 and developed by Longping Seed Industry. It has been approved by the four provinces of Hunan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Hubei.

Characteristics and traits: This variety is a medium-maturity indica-type late rice. The plant type is moderate, with a plant height of about 100 cm, average growth vigor and weak tillering ability; the whole growth period is about 115 days; the total number of grains per panicle is 120, and the seed-setting rate is 80%; the 1000-grain weight is 26 g. It is moderately sensitive to light and temperature, has a long growth period under short days and high temperatures, is cold-tolerant in the later stage, and colors well at maturity. It is moderately resistant to rice blast and susceptible to bacterial leaf blight.

Yield performance: In 2000-2001, it participated in the late rice variety regional trial in Hubei Province. In 2000, the yield per mu was 471.75, an increase of 4.92% over the control Shanyou 64, extremely significant. In 2001, the yield per mu was 517.05 kg, an increase of 4.66% over Shanyou 64. According to analysis by the Rice Quality Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture: brown rice rate 79.4%, head rice rate 62.2%, chalky grain rate 19%, chalkiness size 1.9%, length-to-width ratio 3.1, amylose content 24.1%, gel consistency 51 mm. In 1999, it was rated as third-grade high-quality rice in Hunan Province.

Cultivation points: When cultivated as late rice in the Changsha area, sow around June 20, and the seedling age should not exceed 30 days. Sow sparsely and evenly, and maintain reasonable close planting and good fertilizer and water management. Insert enough for 80,000 basic seedlings per mu, and when the total number of seedlings per mu reaches 300,000, begin draining the field for sun-drying. Apply heavy fertilizer early to promote tillering, and apply appropriately less later to prevent lodging. Focus on controlling rice blast, sheath blight and bacterial leaf blight.
