Introduction to the Rice Variety Jinyou 2248

(1) Variety origin: Jinyou 2248 is a medium-maturing medium indica hybrid rice combination developed by the Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, using Jin 23A and 2248 in a cross.

(2) Characteristics: This combination has a growth period of 147 days, a plant height of 110 cm, an average of 130 grains per panicle, a seed-setting rate above 80%, and a 1000-grain weight of 27-28 g. It has a good plant and leaf type, strong tillering ability, erect leaves, and a relatively dark leaf color. Most of its rice quality reaches the Ministry-issued first- or second-grade high-quality rice standard. In disease resistance identification, leaf blast was grade 4-5 and neck blast grade 2-5, with slight field infection of sheath blight.

(3) Yield performance: In the two years 1995-1996, it participated in the provincial regional trial, with an average yield of 500.35 kg per mu, an increase of 1.45% over the control variety Shanyou 195; in 1997, it participated in the production trial, with an average yield of 526 kg per mu, comparable to Shanyou.

(4) Key cultivation points: Sow at the appropriate time, cultivate strong seedlings with many tillers, and transplant 100,000-200,000 basic seedlings per mu; in fertilizer and water management, apply sufficient basal fertilizer, increase the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, apply a light panicle fertilizer at the appropriate time, and appropriately delay the time of water cutoff in the later stage.

(5) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for planting in the flatland and hilly areas of our province and in similar areas outside the province.
