Approval status: approved by the Tianjin Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1990, recognized by the Beijing Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1993, and approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1995.

Variety registration number: GS01008-1994.

Variety source: Hongqi 25A/H-5//IR54///81-342.

Characteristics: a medium-maturity japonica rice variety. Seedling stage growth is relatively luxuriant, the root system is well developed, plant height is about 100 cm, the culm is hard, the total number of leaves on the main stem is 15, the flag leaf angle is small, the panicle grains are relatively loose, some have short awns at the tip, the earing rate is 85.6%, the average number of grains per panicle is 108, the seed-setting rate is 96%, the 1000-grain weight is about 26 g, the brown rice rate is 83.8%, the milled rice rate is 77.0%, the head rice rate is 67.5%, the alkali spreading value is 6.9, the gel consistency is 81 mm, the amylose content is 19.2%, and the protein content is 9.3%. The whole growth period is 145 days. It has the characteristics of excellent rice quality, relatively high yield, and moderate resistance to rice blast, with an average yield of 450-500 kg per mu.

Cultivation points: treat the seeds before sowing to control bakanae disease and white-tip nematode disease. Sow sparsely to raise strong seedlings, transplant strong seedlings sparsely, apply sufficient base fertilizer, and combine nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Strive for 220,000-260,000 effective panicles per mu. When the total number of stems per mu reaches 350,000, drain the field for sun-drying to control ineffective tillering. After heading, intermittent irrigation should be used.

Suitable range: Tianjin, Beijing, Hebei and other places for wheat-stubble rice or late rice, and northern Shaanxi and southern Liaoning for single-season rice cultivation.
