Variety source: Jindao 521/Wuyujing 3
Characteristics: This variety is a conventional japonica-type rice variety. When grown in the Huang-Huai region, its whole growth period is 156.6 days, 1 day later maturing than the control Yujing 6. Plant height is 99 cm, total grains per panicle are 142.6, seed-setting rate is 84.5%, and 1000-grain weight is 23.7 g. Rice blast disease grade 3. Main rice quality indicators: head rice rate 67.3%, chalky grain rate 5%, chalkiness degree 0.2%, gel consistency 85 mm, amylose content 17.2%.
Yield performance: In 2002, it participated in the regional trial of the Yujing 6 group in the northern rice region, with an average yield of 601.4 kg per mu, 0.6% lower than the control Yujing 6 (not significant); in 2003, in the continued trial, the average yield was 476.5 kg per mu, 3.3% higher than the control Yujing 6 (highly significant); the two-year regional trial average yield was 539 kg per mu, 1.1% higher than the control Yujing 6. In 2003, the production trial average yield was 518 kg per mu, 9.3% higher than the control Yujing 6.
Key cultivation techniques: 1. Cultivate strong seedlings: sow at the same time as Yujing 6 according to local planting practices, with a seedbed sowing rate of 2/3 that of generally conventional varieties; 2. Transplanting: transplant 80,000-100,000 basic seedlings per mu; 3. Fertilizer and water management: apply 15 kg of diammonium phosphate, 15 kg of urea, and 7.5 kg of potassium fertilizer per mu as basal fertilizer, and after greenup, 25 kg of urea may be applied as topdressing; 4. Pest and disease control: pay attention to controlling rice false smut.
Approval opinion: Upon review, this variety meets the national rice variety approval standards and has passed approval. This variety has a moderate maturity period, medium yield, moderate resistance to rice blast, and excellent rice quality. It is suitable for planting in the rice areas along the Yellow River in Henan, southern Shandong, Jiangsu, the Huaibei area of Anhui, and the Guanzhong rice area of Shaanxi.
