No-till potato planting technology succeeds in trial planting in Yulin Village, Funing

The author saw in the fields of the Yulin Village group, Naping Village Committee, Xinhua Town, Funing County, that the 50-mu no-till potato planting trial demonstration plot was growing vigorously. According to yield measurements by technicians from the county agricultural technology extension center, the average yield per mu reached 1543 kg, and the trial planting of no-till potato planting technology in Funing was successful.

No-till potato cultivation technology refers to a cost-saving, light, simple, high-yield and efficient cultivation technology in which, after the previous crop is harvested, without plowing or harrowing, seed potatoes are placed directly on the soil surface, fully covered with farmyard manure or fine soil, while chemical fertilizer is applied between two rows of seed potatoes, and then covered with rice straw and other materials, with appropriate fertilization and management measures, until harvest. In recent years, this technology has already been promoted in many counties including Guangxi Autonomous Region. It has wide adaptability, with yields per mu between 2000 and 4500 kg. Compared with conventional planting methods, no-till planting technology saves labor and effort, is simple and easy to operate, and is easy to manage. It can save 8 to 10 days of labor per mu and save about 300 yuan in labor costs. At the same time, it can be harvested by hand without damaging the potato flesh, so it sells well and fetches a good price. "Set them out, and a new technology is set out; cover them, and a good harvest is covered; pick them up, and sweetness is picked up in the heart." This is the heartfelt feeling of farmers who have benefited from the promotion of no-till potato technology.

In order to solve the problems of scattered fields and many small plots in mountainous areas, the difficulty of mechanized farming, and the very prominent contradictions in winter agricultural production, the county agriculture bureau introduced this technology for trial planting on 50 mu of farmland in Yulin Village. Although the trial demonstration plot was more than one month later than the planting season and was affected by frost and freezing rain disaster weather for more than 30 days at the beginning of the year, it still achieved a good harvest with an average yield per mu of 1543 kg. The success of the trial planting will play a positive role in promoting and advancing large-scale potato planting throughout the county. For this reason, our county will arrange for each township to promote 500 mu this winter, and double the implementation year by year, so as to drive farmers throughout the county to use idle winter fields to develop and expand the potato industry.
