Characteristics: a large-panicle, large-grain japonica rice variety. Compact plant type, plant height 106 cm, well-developed root system, thick and sturdy stems. Leaf color dark green, leaves broad and thick, functional leaves long, maturity with plants still green, small angle between leaves and stems, plant appearance neat. Panicle length 16 cm, grains per panicle 160, 1000-grain weight 28-29 g, grains broadly ovate, grain length medium, glume tip yellow, tillering ability medium to above average, earing rate over 75%. Brown rice rate 84.5%, milled rice rate 75%, head rice rate 68.9%, chalkiness rate 12%, chalkiness degree 0.9%, amylose content 17.7%, good eating taste. In Tianjin, the whole growth period is about 175 days, strong lodging resistance, good yielding ability, excellent grain quality, medium resistance to panicle neck blast, lightly susceptible to rice false smut. In the northern rice region trials in 1996-1997, the two-year average yield was 551.7 kg per mu, 6.3% higher than the control Jin 1187; in the 1998 northern rice region production trial, the average yield was 579.9 kg per mu, 6.7% higher than the control.
Cultivation points: carry out seed treatment before sowing (sun-drying seeds, salt-water seed selection, chemical seed soaking), raise strong seedlings early with small seedlings, sow in early April in the Beijing, Tianjin and Tangshan areas, and transplant in early May. Transplanting density 3-4 seedlings per hill, basic seedlings per mu about 50,000-60,000, maximum tiller number 280,000-300,000, earing 200,000-220,000. Fertilization should be mainly basal fertilizer, with heavy application of tillering fertilizer and skillful application of panicle fertilizer (applied at the spikelet differentiation stage); if premature senescence is found in fields at the heading stage, supplement grain fertilizer as appropriate. Pay attention to the control of rice false smut.
