(1) Variety origin: A high-altitude japonica rice variety developed by the Seed Station of Yanyuan County, Liangshan Prefecture in 1978 from the intermediate material "7801-10--2'', through selection and breeding into the stable line "8790--1". (2) Characteristics: This line has a compact plant type, upright flag leaves, green leaves, light green internodes, strong cold tolerance at the seedling stage, vigorous growth, strong tillering ability, and good color change in the later stage. Plant height 90 cm, whole growth period 185 days, 4-7 days later maturing than the control variety Japonica 9. Panicle length 17 cm, grain number per panicle 1

(2) Characteristics: This line has a compact plant type, upright flag leaves, green leaves, light green internodes, strong cold tolerance at the seedling stage, vigorous growth, strong tillering ability, and good color change in the later stage. Plant height 90 cm, whole growth period 185 days, 4-7 days later maturing than the control variety Japonica 9. Panicle length 17 cm, grain number per panicle 100 grains, seed setting rate 70%. Grains are long oval, short awned, 1000-grain weight 26 g, brown rice rate 83.5%, milled rice rate 73%, rice quality semi-translucent, small chalkiness, good eating quality, relatively superior rice quality. Resistance identification: leaf blast grade 7, neck blast grade 5; compared with the control Japonica 9, leaf blast grade 5, neck blast grade 5, resistance slightly weaker; compared with the local control variety "79---2", leaf blast grade 7, neck blast grade 9, resistance slightly stronger.

(3) Yield performance: In 1992 and 1993, it participated in the high-altitude japonica rice regional trial in Liangshan Prefecture. In 1992, all four locations showed yield increases, with an average yield of 379.4 kg per mu, 7.05% higher than the control Japonica 9; in 1993, of 3 locations, 2 showed yield increases, and 1 showed a non-significant yield decrease, with an average yield of 333.07 kg per mu, 11.6% higher than the control variety. In the production trial, the yield was 425 kg per mu, 27% higher than Japonica 9. In 1995, more than 10,000 mu were planted as a demonstration in Yanyuan County. Feedback was good.

(4) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for planting in the high-altitude rice areas of Liangshan Prefecture at elevations of 1900-2430 m.
