Characteristics and Traits of the Rice Variety Guofeng No. 1
Origin: A new high-quality three-line hybrid rice variety bred by the Guofeng High-Quality Hybrid Rice Breeding Center (a joint venture between Hefei Fengle Seed Industry and the China National Rice Research Institute).
Approval status: Approved by the National Approval Committee in 2001.
Characteristics and traits: When grown as double-season late rice, the growth period is similar to that of Jinyou Gui 99; when grown as single-season middle rice, the growth period is about 6 days shorter than that of Shanyou 63. This combination has taller plants, medium tillering ability, and longer flag leaves, with large panicles and many grains, generally 180 total grains per panicle, a seed-setting rate of 85%, and a 1000-grain weight of 30 g. The grains are slender, the rice quality is excellent, and the proportion of chalkiness in the center and belly is low. In 2000, it participated in the Anhui Province high-quality middle indica group regional trial, with 6 test sites; it ranked first in yield at 5 sites and second at 1 site, with an average yield of 560.4 kg per mu, an increase of 6.48% over Shanyou 63, ranking first among the tested combinations. This combination has strong adaptability, is highly resistant to bacterial leaf blight, and is mildly susceptible to rice blast. It is suitable for cultivation as single-season middle rice in the double-season rice areas of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
Cultivation points: Suitable for planting at medium fertilizer and water levels. Seed rate 1-1.5 kg/mu; for middle rice, transplanting density 5 cun x 7 cun; for late rice, slightly denser. Nitrogen fertilizer application per mu should be equivalent to about 10 kg of pure nitrogen. Seedling age 30-35 days; transplant 1.8-2 ten-thousand hills per mu, with 8-10 ten-thousand basic seedlings. Drain the field at 18-20 ten-thousand seedlings per mu; avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer in the later stage.
