Rice variety Huhan 15 passes national certification
Bred by the Shanghai Agrobiological Gene Center (), it recently passed certification by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee. It is an indica-type conventional upland rice. Grown as a single-season mid-season rice under upland conditions in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, its average whole growth period is 121.1 days, 10.6 days later maturing than the control Zhonghan 3. It grows uniformly, with vigorous seedling growth, strong tillering ability, a compact plant type, erect leaves, and green culms at yellow ripeness. The effective panicle number is 200,000 panicles per mu, plant height is 103.0 cm, panicle length is 20.7 cm, total grains per panicle are 144.3, seed setting rate is 80.6%, and 1000-grain weight is 21.3 g. Resistance: drought resistance grade 1, rice blast grade 3. Main grain quality indicators: head rice rate 62.2%, length-to-width ratio 3.0, chalky grain rate 15%, chalkiness degree 2.2%, gel consistency 30 mm, and amylose content 25.0%.
Yield performance: In the lower Yangtze upland rice group variety regional trials from 2004 to 2005, the average yield was 357.33 kg per mu, an increase of 36.71% over the control Zhonghan 3 (extremely significant). In the 2005 production trial, the average yield was 369.84 kg per mu, an increase of 26.04% over the control Zhonghan 3. It is suitable for planting as single-season upland rice in some hilly areas with relatively mild drought in Hunan, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, and Guangxi.
