Introduction and Characteristics of the Hongyou 22 Rice Variety

(1) Variety source: Hongyou X was developed by Mianyang Economic and Technical College, using the self-bred male-sterile line Hong'ai A crossed with CDR22 bred by the Crop Research Institute of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

(2) Characteristics: The whole growth period is 146 days, one day longer than Shanyou 63. Plant height is 109.8 cm, panicle length is 25.8 cm, grains per panicle are 138.8, seed-setting rate is 86.07%, and 1000-grain weight is 29 g. Brown rice rate is 79.6%, milled rice rate is 72.6%, length-to-width ratio is 2.9, and grain quality is superior to the control. According to resistance identification results, leaf blast is grade 3-7, neck blast is grade 5-7, and resistance is stronger than the control.

(3) Yield performance: In 1996, it participated in multi-location trials, with an average yield of 577.5 kg per mu, an increase of 6.12% over Shanyou 63; in 1997, it simultaneously participated in the regional trials of Mianyang and Deyang. In the Mianyang regional trial, the yield per mu was 583.9 kg, an increase of 6.34% over the control. In the 1998 continued trial, the average yield per mu was 556.8 kg, an increase of 6.69% over the control. The two-year average yield per mu was 570.35 kg, an increase of 6.51% over the control. In the 1997 Deyang regional trial, the yield per mu was 559.31 kg, an increase of 6.06% over the control. In the 1998 continued trial, the yield per mu was 569.75 kg, an increase of 10.26% over the control. The two-year average yield per mu was 564.53 kg, an increase of 8.16% over the control. In production trials, the yield per mu was 544.07-603.6 kg, an increase of 8.43-8.7% over Shanyou 63.

(4) Cultivation key points: Sow early at the proper time, cultivate strong seedlings with multiple tillers, with a basic population of 80,000-120,000 plants per mu, apply heavy basal fertilizer and topdress early, rationally combine N, P and K, increase the application of organic fertilizer, irrigate with shallow water, drain the field at the proper time, and promptly control diseases and insect pests.

(5) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for planting in areas of our province, Mianyang and Deyang, where Shanyou 63 is planted.
