Variety source: Ma Wan Nuo // IRAT109 / P77. Characteristics: This variety is a conventional japonica-type upland rice. When grown as rainfed upland rice in the mid-season rice region of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the average whole growth period is 113.8 days, 4.3 days later than the control Brazilian upland rice "IAPAR9". Plant height is 99.3 cm, seedling growth is vigorous, and the plant-leaf type is average. The number of effective panicles per mu is 179,000, panicle length is 19.4 cm, total grains per panicle is 101.6, seed setting rate is 71.0%, and 1000-grain weight is 26.2 g. Resistance: drought resistance grade 1, rice blast grade 1, bacterial blight

Resistance: drought resistance grade 1, rice blast grade 1, bacterial blight grade 9. Main rice quality indicators: head rice rate 60.3%, length-to-width ratio 2.0, chalkiness rate 88.0%, chalkiness degree 15.8%, gel consistency 84.5 mm, amylose content 16.3%.

Yield performance: In 2002, it participated in the regional trial of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River group, with an average yield of 280.69 kg per mu, an increase of 8.82% over the control Brazilian upland rice "IAPAR9" (extremely significant); in 2003, it continued the trial, with an average yield of 254.61 kg per mu, an increase of 8.84% over the control Brazilian upland rice "IAPAR9" (extremely significant); the two-year average yield of the regional trial was 265.59 kg per mu, an increase of 8.83% over the control Brazilian upland rice "IAPAR9". In 2003, the average yield of the production trial was 199.11 kg per mu, an increase over the control Brazilian upland rice "IAPAR9".

Key cultivation techniques: 1. Land preparation: plow and level the land, with a depth of 18-20 cm being suitable, open furrows and make beds, and spray glyphosate or Roundup-type strong herbicides 15 days before land preparation to clear weeds; 2. Sowing: before sowing, sun the seed, soak the seed, and treat with chemicals. Both drilling and hole sowing are acceptable, sowing depth 3-5 cm, sowing rate 4-6 kg per mu; 3. Fertilization: apply 20 dan of organic fertilizer and 40 kg of compound fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer, topdress 8-10 kg of urea when the seedlings have 4 leaves, and topdress 10 kg of urea at the tillering stage; 4. Water management: during the entire growth period, pay attention to timely irrigation according to soil drought conditions; 5. Weed control: at sowing, an appropriate upland rice-specific herbicide may be used, and thereafter manual weeding should be carried out in time; 6. Pest and disease control: pay attention to controlling bacterial blight and other pests and diseases.

Approval opinion: Upon review, this variety meets the national rice variety approval standards and has passed approval. This variety has strong drought resistance, a moderate maturity period, relatively high yield, resistance to rice blast, high susceptibility to bacterial blight, and average rice quality. It is suitable for upland mid-season rice cultivation in areas with light occurrence of bacterial blight in Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Hubei, central and southern Jiangsu, and central and southern Anhui.
