Introduction to the Characteristics of the Rice Variety Huahang 1

Variety Introduction:

Huahang 1 is a new high-quality, high-yield rice variety bred by the Department of Agronomy at South China Agricultural University. Rice seeds were carried aboard a Chinese recoverable satellite for 15 days of space flight and then sown on the ground, and the variety was selected from several hundred mutant single plants grown on the ground. This variety has the following characteristics: 1. Excellent grain quality; the grains are transparent with no white belly, and the length-to-width ratio is 3.3-3.5. According to the appraisal by the Guangdong Provincial Grain and Oil Quality Inspection Station, the early rice belongs to the first-grade rice class. 2. Good yielding performance. Large panicles with many grains and a high seed-setting rate; the average total number of grains per panicle is about 209, the number of filled grains is about 196, the seed-setting rate reaches 93%, and the 1000-grain weight is 20.3 grams. The average weight per panicle exceeds 4 grams, the average grain weight per plant exceeds 30 grams, and under ordinary cultivation it can reach 500-550 kg per mu, while under high-yield cultivation it can reach more than 600 kg. 3. Strong disease resistance and stress resistance. Based on field performance, this variety shows a very vigorous growth posture from individual plants to the population as a whole, and displays good resistance. According to provincial regional trial appraisal, its resistance ratio to the entire blast disease population reaches 60.3%. 4. Good plant type and good field population structure. This variety has a plant height of 96-102 cm, an upright plant type, good spreading and compactness, leaves held upward, moderate width, thick and sturdy stems, tolerance to fertilizer and resistance to lodging, uniform heading, a well-developed root system, stems and leaves that do not senesce early, good color change in the later stage, and at maturity it has green branches and waxy stems with good ripe color. The whole growth period of this variety for the early season is 123-126 days.
