Detailed Introduction to the Rice Variety Fengruanzhan 13

Fengruanzhan 13 is a new conventional rice variety bred by the Yangjiang City Agricultural Science Institute through a triple cross of (Feng'aizhan No. 1 x Thai rice) x Sanyuan P3. In the late-crop trial planting in 2000, the yield per mu was 440 7 kg, an increase of 11 8% over the first control variety Yuexiangzhan and 10 7% over the second control variety Jingxian 98; in 2001, it participated in the municipal regional trial, with a yield per mu of 427 7 kg in the early crop and 428 9 kg in the late crop, an increase of 17-20% over the control variety Yuexiangzhan, a significant yield increase, and its yield ranking was among the top in each crop.

Main characteristics: from sowing to maturity, 120-123 days in the early crop and 110-112 days in the late crop, belonging to the medium-late maturing type. It is relatively cold-tolerant in the early stage of the early crop and the late stage of the late crop, with steady growth. The leaf color is medium dark, the leaf posture is slightly erect, and the growth vigor and tillering ability are relatively strong. The maximum number of seedlings per mu is 29 3-38 4 ten thousand, and the effective panicle number is 19 1-22 3 ten thousand, with uniform heading and maturity. The plant height is 98 3-103 cm, the average total grains per panicle is 120 1-130 3, of which filled grains are 96 8-123 1, the seed-setting rate is 80 6%-94 5%, and the 1000-grain weight is 23 g. With no chemical or mechanical control in the field, it showed high resistance to rice blast, no occurrence of bacterial leaf blight, and slight susceptibility to sheath blight. The grain quality is excellent, and it was identified as provincial-standard late-crop first grade. The grain shape is long, with a length-to-width ratio greater than 3, crystal clear and white, basically without chalkiness in the center or belly, uniform and attractive grains, good commercial appearance, and competitive market potential. After many tastings, the cooked rice is soft but not sticky, smooth but not greasy, does not harden when cool, has a good mouthfeel and full rice flavor, and has received much praise. It is one of the varieties with relatively good comprehensive traits among current soft-type rice varieties.

In view of the variety's good high yield, disease resistance, and cooked rice palatability, trial planting and demonstration are currently being expanded in various types of areas in Yangjiang City, especially in areas where rice blast frequently occurs.

Cultivation points: (1) There are no strict requirements for field type or soil texture, and the seed rate per mu in the field is 2 0-2 5 kg. In the early crop, sow around Jingzhe and transplant around Qingming; in the late crop, sow around Dashu and transplant before autumn; for seedling throwing, it is suitable to carry out at the 3-leaf stage, with 8-10 ten thousand basic seedlings per mu. (2) Apply sufficient basal fertilizer, apply tillering fertilizer early, increase phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and in the late crop it is suitable to apply tail-strengthening fertilizer. (3) Promote tillering with shallow water, expose and sun the field when enough seedlings are reached, use thin water during flowering and grain filling, and keep moist conditions for full grain maturity. (4) Pay attention to the control of diseases, insects, and rodents.
