Clever Ways and Techniques to Use Garlic as a Feed Additive
1. Application in poultry In the feed of meat-type chicks, adding chopped raw garlic at a ratio of 3%-5% can not only stimulate the chicks' appetite, improve the quality of the chicken meat, and make the chicken meat more flavorful, but also significantly increase the daily weight gain of broilers. Adding 0.2% dried garlic powder to chick feed can increase the chick survival rate by 5.8%-15.6%. Regularly feeding garlic to poultry can also enhance their immunity and reduce the occurrence of diseases.
2. Application in livestock Adding 3% garlic to the feed of lactating sows can increase the sows' daily feed intake by more than 2 kg; adding 2% garlic to the feed of piglets weaned for 15-25 days can increase the piglets' daily weight gain by more than 6.9%; adding 3%-5% garlic to dairy cow feed has a very good feeding-attractant effect on dairy cows, and the daily milk yield per cow can increase by about 2 kg.
3. Adding methods ① Adding fresh garlic: When the amount used is small, fresh garlic can be peeled, chopped, or made into garlic paste with a meat grinder, then added to the feed and stirred thoroughly before feeding; when the amount used is large, fresh garlic (without peeling) can first be mixed with the main ingredient of the feed (usually corn) in the required amount, and then crushed. ② Adding dried garlic powder: Dry the garlic, make it into dried powder, and add it directly to the feed in proportion.
