Detailed Introduction to the Fuyou 838 Rice Variety
It was developed by the Institute of Nuclear Technology Application of Sichuan Province by crossing the self-bred sterile line Fu 74A with the self-bred restorer line 838. This combination has a full growth period of 145 days, 6-8 days earlier maturing than Shanyou 63, and the same as Aiyou S. Plant height is 115 cm, with strong tillering ability, good luxuriance, thick stems and lodging resistance, and good color conversion in the late stage. Average grains per panicle 150, seed setting rate 85-90%, 1000-grain weight 28-29 g. Brown rice rate g1%, milled rice rate 70%. Eating quality and appearance quality are comparable to Shanyou 63. Moderately resistant to rice blast. In two years of pathogen inoculation identification, leaf blast was grade 3-5 and neck blast was grade 0-5. In 1995 and 1996, it participated in the provincial regional trial, with an average yield of 507.9 kg per mu and 534.37 kg per mu, an increase of 11.87% compared with the control Shanyou 195, which had an average yield of 477.65 kg per mu. The two-year provincial regional trial average yield was 521.14 jin per mu. In 1995, it participated in the national southern hybrid rice medium indica early-medium maturity group regional trial, with an average yield of 562.17 kg per mu, an increase of 15.2% over the control Weiyou 64. In 1996, the national regional trial average yield was 528 kg per mu, an increase of 16.12% over the control. In 1996, a large-scale trial planting of 3250 mu in Wuhou District, Chengdu City, had an average yield of 530 kg per mu, an increase of 42.1 kg per mu over local varieties, or 7.8%. This combination is moderately resistant to rice blast and has good yield potential, and is suitable for planting as a companion variety in the Chengdu Plain and the hilly areas of northwestern Sichuan.
