Introduction to the rice variety Fuyuan No. 4 (formerly known as Ji 96d10)
Breeding institution: Rice Research Institute, Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Approval status: Approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 2000.
Variety approval number: Guoshen Rice 20000011.
Variety source: Systematically selected after crossing 31ll6s, 30301s, 5047S, 4018S, etc. with Chaocan No. 1 and Chaocan No. 2.
Characteristics: Conventional japonica rice variety. Plant height about 100 cm, plant type relatively loose, leaves relatively long, leaf color light green, early growth and rapid development in the early stage, stems remain green at maturity in the later stage, strong stem toughness. Grain long oval, glume and glume tip yellow, awnless. Moderate grain density, panicle length 20.1 cm, grains per panicle 126, seed setting rate 98.3%, 1000-grain weight 26 g, head rice rate 61.9%, chalkiness 10.7%, amylose content 18.1%. Full growth period about 144 days, 1 day later than Jiyujing. Good yield potential, medium rice quality, strong tillering ability, lodging resistance, cold tolerance, moderate resistance to rice blast, good adaptability. From 1998 to 1999, participated in the national northern rice region Jiyujing maturity group regional trial, average yield 627.5 kg per mu, 9.8% higher than the control Jiyujing; in the 1999 production trial, average yield 607 kg per mu, 6.7% higher than the control Jiyujing.
Cultivation points: In Jilin Province, sow in mid-to-late April, transplant rice seedlings in mid-to-late May, transplanting density 26 cm X 12 cm or 30 cm X 20 cm. Under medium soil fertility conditions, apply a total of 10 kg nitrogen, 8.7 kg potassium, and 6.7 kg pure phosphorus per mu. All phosphate fertilizer is applied as basal fertilizer, 2/3 of potassium fertilizer as basal fertilizer, 1/3 applied as panicle fertilizer around July 10, 20% of nitrogen fertilizer as basal fertilizer, 20% as tillering fertilizer (around June 5), 30% as supplementary fertilizer (June 25-30), 15% as the first panicle fertilizer (around July 10), 10% as the second panicle fertilizer (around July 25), 5% as grain fertilizer (August 5-10). Fertilization during the growth period must be adapted to local conditions; plots with high fertility should be applied moderately less, and vice versa, moderately more.
Suitable range: Northern Jiyujing maturity rice-growing region.
