New high-quality, high-yield rice variety from Jiangxi reaches domestic leading level

The research project "Breeding and Demonstration of the New High-Quality, High-Yield Rice Variety Ganwanxian No. 36," led by the Department of Life Sciences at Shangrao Normal University, recently passed an achievement appraisal organized by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology. After carefully reviewing the relevant technical materials, agricultural experts from the Jiangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Department of Agriculture, Jiangxi Agricultural University, the Shangrao Municipal Agriculture Bureau and other departments concluded that the project has reached the domestic leading level in breeding first-grade high-quality indica rice varieties.

"Ganwanxian No. 36" has a moderate plant type, relatively thick and sturdy stems, strong tillering ability, large panicles with many grains, a relatively high seed-setting rate, and good color retention at the late stage. It has shown high and stable yields in large-scale trial demonstrations. In the two-year Jiangxi provincial late indica high-quality group regional trial, it averaged 439.4 kg per mu, an increase of 8.4% over "Ganwanxian No. 19." Experts said that this variety not only has a high yield, but all its rice quality testing indicators also meet the national first-grade high-quality rice standard. At the same time, "Ganwanxian No. 36" has shown relatively good field resistance to sheath blight and rice planthoppers.

Jiangxi agricultural experts suggest further strengthening the purification and rejuvenation of this variety and increasing its promotion efforts to serve farmers in raising yields and incomes.
