How does the rice variety Gangyou 26 perform?

(1) Variety origin: A new medium-indica late-maturing hybrid rice combination developed by the Rice Research Institute of Sichuan Agricultural University by crossing "Gang 46A" with restorer line 6326 (Milyang 46 x Minghui 63).

(2) Characteristics: The combination has a whole growth period of 149.1 days, 1 day longer than the control Shanyou 63, plant height 113 cm, vigorous seedling growth, above-average tillering ability, moderate plant type, about 160,000 panicles per mu, 150-170 grains per panicle, seed-setting rate 81-85%, 1000-grain weight 28-29 g, brown rice rate 79.7%, milled rice rate .5%, and palatability comparable to Shanyou 63. Inoculation identification for rice blast: leaf blast grade 4-5, neck blast grade 0-3, with resistance significantly better than Shanyou 63.

(3) Yield performance: In the provincial rice regional trial, the average yield per mu in 1994 was 571.45 kg, 3.11% higher than Shanyou 63; in 1995 the average yield per mu was 521.6 kg, 2.71% lower than Shanyou; the two-year average yield per mu was 546.3 kg, 25% higher than the control. According to the province's unified requirements for the combination production trial, the average yield per mu at nine sites was 555.9 kg, 10.82% higher than Shanyou 63.

(4) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for cultivation as middle-season rice in our province.
