Approval status: Approved by the Jilin Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1995 and by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1999.
Variety approval number: Guoshen Dao 990005.
Variety source: Qingxi 96 / BG902 // Xiabei.
Characteristics: A medium-stem, multi-panicle late-maturing japonica rice variety, plant height 95-100 cm, leaves light green, good plant type, strong tillering ability, strong stem toughness, short awn on panicle, yellow glume tip, oval grain, main panicle grain number 100-110, 1000-grain weight 26 g. Brown rice rate 83.2%, milled rice rate 73.6%, head rice rate 61.3%, chalkiness 0, transparency grade 1, gelatinization temperature grade 7, gel consistency 86 mm, amylose content 17.7%, protein content 6.76%. The whole growth period is about 145 days, with good yield potential, tolerance to fertilizer and resistance to lodging, relatively good grain quality, and resistance to rice blast and bacterial leaf blight. From 1994 to 1995, it participated in the northern rice region trial; the two-year average yield was 606.1 kg per mu, an increase of 8.6% over the control variety Qiuguang.
Cultivation points: Sow sparsely to raise strong seedlings, sowing in early to mid-April, transplanting in mid-May, density 26.4 cm x 132 cm or 30 cm x 20 cm. For fields with general fertility levels, apply 10-12 kg of pure nitrogen per mu, appropriately combined with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, with heavy application early, light application at mid-season, and supplementary application later. Use a shallow-deep-shallow irrigation method.
Suitable range: Cultivation in Jilin, northern Liaoning, and parts of Shanxi and Ningxia.
