Chunyou No. 2 is a new high-yielding, early-maturing hybrid japonica rice combination developed by crossing the dense-panicle-type japonica rice male sterile line Chunjiang 10A with the large-panicle-type japonica rice restorer line CH89. 1. Panicle and grain structure and yield: plant height 103.3 cm, effective panicles per mu 152,000, panicle length 18.3 cm, total grains per panicle 175.4, seed-setting rate 90.2%, 1000-grain weight 26.9 g, theoretical yield 646.9 kg/mu (2002 data). 2. Main characteristics: as a continuous late rice, the whole growth period is about 130 days

Chunyou No. 2 is a new high-yielding, early-maturing hybrid japonica rice combination developed by crossing the dense-panicle-type japonica rice male sterile line Chunjiang 10A with the large-panicle-type japonica rice restorer line CH89.

1. Panicle and grain structure and yield: plant height 103.3 cm, effective panicles per mu 152,000, panicle length 18.3 cm, total grains per panicle 175.4, seed-setting rate 90.2%, 1000-grain weight 26.9 g, theoretical yield 646.9 kg/mu (2002 data).

2. Main characteristics: as a continuous late rice, the whole growth period is about 130 days; as a single late rice, the whole growth period is 140-145 days, 2-3 days shorter than the hybrid japonica rice Yongyou No. 1 and similar to the conventional japonica rice Xiushui 63. The plant is short and sturdy, not prone to seedling failure after transplanting, turns green quickly, has strong tillering ability, thick stems, a compact plant type, upright flag leaves, good color change at maturity, and good grain shattering. It is moderately resistant to rice blast, moderately resistant to bacterial leaf blight, and has relatively light sheath blight incidence in the field. It has the characteristics of high yield, lodging resistance, and relatively good grain quality.

3. Cultivation points: (1) Sow sparsely at the right time: for single late rice cultivation in northern Zhejiang, sowing can be done at the end of May or the beginning of June; for continuous late rice cultivation in central and southern Zhejiang, sowing can be done around June 20-25. Generally, sow about 8-12 kg per mu, with 1-2 kg of seed used per mu of paddy field, to cultivate strong seedlings with tillers. (2) Reasonable close planting: for single late rice, row spacing and plant spacing can use 5 x 7 cun or 6 x 6 cun, with 1-2 seedlings per hill; for continuous late rice, row spacing and plant spacing are preferably 5 x 6 cun or 5 x 5.5 cun, with 2-3 seedlings per hill. (3) Strengthen fertilizer and water management: the fertilizer requirement is relatively high. Generally, apply about 60 dan of standard fertilizer per mu, and at the same time apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. In terms of fertilization method, it is advisable to apply sufficient base fertilizer, apply topdressing early, and not cut off water too early in the later stage. (4) Control pests and diseases: pay attention to preventing bakanae disease, and do a good job in controlling rice blast, stem borers, and other pests and diseases in the middle and late stages.
