Detailed introduction to the rice variety K You 17
Breeding institution: Rice and Sorghum Research Institute, Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Approval status: approved by the Sichuan Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in l997, and by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1999.
Variety approval number: Guoshendao 990010.
Variety source: K17AX Huhui 17.
Characteristics: a three-line hybrid rice late indica combination. Plant height 110 cm, plants grow uniformly, plant type moderately loose. Leaves dark green, flag leaf moderate in size, tillering ability above average. Effective panicles per mu 180,000-200,000, panicles spindle-shaped, panicle length 24 cm, panicle layer uniform, grains per panicle l09.8, seed setting rate 75.6%, 1000-grain weight 29.3 g; grains rectangular, yellow, with a few short awns at the tip, glume tip purple. Brown rice rate 79.8%, milled rice rate 71.7%, head rice rate 56.4%, chalkiness rate 50%, chalkiness degree 9.2%, transparency grade 2, gel consistency 46 mm, amylose content 22.6%. The whole growth period as late rice is 121.8 days. Good yielding ability, plant stems hard, tolerant to fertilizer and resistant to lodging, medium grain quality. Highly susceptible to rice blast, susceptible to bacterial leaf blight. In 1997, in the national southern rice region late indica early-maturing group regional trial, the average yield per mu was 468.12 kg, an increase of 9.6% over the control Shanyou Wan 3; in the 1998 continued trial, the average yield per mu was 475.57 kg, an increase of 11.39% over the control Shanyou Wan 3; in the 1998 southern rice region late rice production trial, the yield per mu was 483.60 kg, a decrease of 2.6% compared with the control Shanyou Wan 3.
Cultivation points: seedling age 35 days, transplanting spacing 16.5 cm X 26.5 cm, 2 seedlings per hill, transplant in shallow water. For field fertilizer, basal fertilizer accounts for 60% of the total; for medium fertility, the total amount of pure nitrogen applied per mu is about 10 kg, and attention should be paid to the combined use of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Water management should preferably be shallow water irrigation. Focus on controlling stem borers and planthoppers, and pay attention to controlling sheath blight. Sow the female parent when the male parent has 6.6 leaves, or sow the female parent about 40 days after sowing the male parent. The row ratio of male and female parents is 2:14-16. The amount of "920" used for the female parent is 10 g per mu. The seed rate for the female parent is 3.5 kg per mu.
Suitable range: to be planted as late indica in lightly occurring rice blast areas in the southern part of the Yangtze River basin.
