What to Do About Garlic Continuous Cropping? Practical Control Methods Shared
Yongnian County is a major garlic-growing county, but in recent years, continuous year-after-year garlic planting has caused physiological diseases to become increasingly severe. In addition, garlic's selective absorption of nutrients has made the problem of insufficient nutrient supply prominent, showing symptoms such as dead seedlings, root rot, anthracnose, and in the later stage some cylindrical leaves like scallion leaves, which are unfavorable for the normal bolting of garlic scapes. This not only increases the labor intensity of garlic farmers but also reduces garlic yield. Changing the garlic root environment is the key to increasing garlic income, as follows:
Apply 2-3 kg per mu of "Nong Dage" or "Chongcha No. 1" biological bacterial fertilizer to garlic, flushed with irrigation water. After the biological bacterial fertilizer is applied, beneficial bacteria in the soil multiply in large numbers, forming a protective layer around the garlic roots, effectively inhibiting and killing harmful bacterial groups. At the same time, it activates ineffective nutrient components in the soil, supplying garlic with balanced nutrients so that its roots are healthy and seedlings are strong.
Alternatively, use 1 kg of "Chongcha No. 1" per mu mixed with 5 kg of water, soak for 4-6 hours, filter and take the clear liquid, then dilute to a 200-fold solution. Choose a sunny, windless afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. to spray the crop, so that both the front and back of the leaves are evenly covered with the solution. Spray 3-4 times throughout the growth period, with an interval of 7-10 days between sprays.
Pay attention to controlling underground pests to promote a bumper harvest. Choose highly effective and low-toxicity insecticides such as "Jiubaojing" and "Phoxim", using 1000 grams per mu. First pour the pesticide liquid into a container and add water to make a stock solution, then flush it with irrigation water, so that the garlic roots receive the pesticide evenly, achieving the best control effect.
