Garlic has a long history of cultivation in China and is one of the main vegetables and cooking seasonings. In recent years it has been exported in large quantities and has become one of China's major export vegetables. Among them, Shandong Province has the largest cultivation area and is one of China's key garlic production and export regions. However, as the cultivation area has continued to expand, the output value and economic benefits of growing garlic have become the issues of greatest concern to many farmer brothers, and selecting seed and switching to improved varieties is even more urgent. In 2006, the prices of garlic scapes and garlic bulbs rose across the board, and garlic farmers' income suddenly increased from the previous 2000-3000 yuan to 4000-5000 yuan. Farmers' enthusiasm for growing garlic continued to strengthen, and the cultivation area also increased accordingly. In addition, because certain individuals and units did not consider farmers' long-term interests and blindly promoted inferior varieties whose cultivation area was already too large or which had already seriously degenerated, in 2007 the price of large quantities of garlic scapes was extremely low or they could not be sold, and the price of garlic bulbs was also consistently low, at its lowest reaching 0.6-0.8 yuan per kg. Although the government and distributors worked hard to promote sales, garlic farmers still suffered relatively large losses.

So which varieties should be selected to enable garlic farmers to obtain relatively high returns? This has become an issue of common concern to experts, scholars and garlic farmers. After investigation and research, and in light of domestic and international market conditions, the following varieties are specially introduced to garlic farmers:

For farmers with a relatively large cultivation area who make garlic their business, they should grow more export-oriented varieties that generate foreign exchange, such as Guosuan No. 8. Because of its pure white skin, high yield, large single bulb and neat cloves, Guosuan No. 8 is highly favored by foreign buyers. Simple cultivation, low labor input, easy management and high output value are its greatest advantages. Under the same conditions, farmers' income increases by more than 1000 yuan per mu, and in 2007 it still sold for 3-3.5 yuan per kg. Therefore, Guosuan No. 8 should be the first-choice cultivation variety for farmer friends;

For greenhouse growers in city suburbs, they can choose to plant earlier-maturing varieties, such as Guosuan No. 2, because its garlic scapes and garlic bulbs are harvested earlier and the returns are relatively higher;

For farmers with a small cultivation area who mainly focus on @#@136@#@ the domestic market, you can choose to plant Guosuan No. 3;

For garlic farmers who mainly store garlic scapes and secondarily process garlic flakes and garlic powder, you can choose Guosuan No. 1.

Finally, here is a saying for you: frequently switch garlic varieties, and Guosuan helps you achieve high yields.
