Approval Number: National Rice Approval 2004017

Variety Name: Q You 2 (formerly: Qing You 2)

Breeding Unit: Chongqing Seed Company

Variety Source: QIA x Chenghui 047

Provincial Approval Status: Approved in 2002 by the Chongqing Crop Variety Approval Committee

Characteristics: This variety is an indica three-line hybrid rice. Grown as a single-season mid-season rice in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the average whole growth period is 154.1 days, 1.5 days later maturing than the control Shanyou 63. Plant height is 108.5 cm, plant and leaf shape is moderate, cold tolerance is average. Effective panicles per mu are 176,000, panicle length is 23.7 cm, total grains per panicle are 171.8, seed setting rate is 76.6%, and 1000-grain weight is 24.9 g. Resistance: rice blast grade 9, bacterial blight grade 5, brown planthopper grade 9. Main rice quality indicators: head rice rate 65.8%, length-to-width ratio 3.0, chalkiness rate 11%, chalkiness degree 1.5%, gel consistency 63 mm, amylose content 15.8%.

Yield Performance: In 2002, it participated in the regional trial of the late-maturing high-quality mid-season indica group in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, with an average yield of 530.64 kg per mu, a decrease of 1.97% compared with the control Shanyou 63 (not significant); in the 2003 continued trial, the average yield was 585.88 kg per mu, an increase of 1.68% compared with the control Shanyou 63 (significant); the two-year regional trial average yield was 559.99 kg per mu, an increase of 0.02% compared with the control Shanyou 63. In the 2003 production trial, the average yield was 593.44 kg per mu, an increase of 8.74% compared with the control Shanyou 63;

Key Cultivation Techniques: 1. Cultivate strong seedlings: sow at the same time as Shanyou 63 according to local planting habits, and control the seedling age at about 40 days; 2. Transplanting: use wide-row narrow-plant transplanting, insert 12,000-15,000 hills per mu, plant 2 grain seedlings per hill, and ensure more than 80,000 basic seedlings per mu; 3. Fertilization: adopt the model of heavy basal fertilizer and early topdressing, with formula fertilization of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. For fields with medium fertility, apply 10 kg of pure nitrogen, 6 kg of phosphorus pentoxide, and 8 kg of potassium oxide per mu. All phosphate fertilizer, 70% of nitrogen fertilizer, and 60% of potassium fertilizer are used as basal fertilizer, and the rest as topdressing. Topdressing should be applied in time 7-10 days after transplanting; 4. Pest and disease control: pay special attention to the control of rice blast, and pay attention to the control of bacterial blight.

Approval Opinion: After review, this variety meets the national rice variety approval standards and has passed approval. This variety has a moderate maturity period, medium yield, is highly susceptible to rice blast, moderately susceptible to bacterial blight, and has excellent rice quality. It is suitable for planting as single-season mid-season rice in the low- and medium-altitude rice areas of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Chongqing (except the Wuling Mountain area), the flatland rice areas of Sichuan, and the lightly affected rice blast areas of southern Shaanxi.
