Detailed Introduction to the Bayesimiao Rice Variety
Bayesimiao is a new simiao (silk) rice variety developed by the Seed Station of the Zengcheng Agricultural Bureau over many years of breeding, using a multi-parent crossbreeding and genetic breeding method that combines multiple elite germplasms from home and abroad. The parentage is: Basmati 370 /// Guiyezhan No. 3 / LABELLE // Heiyesimiao No. 21. The elite lines of Bayesimiao are No. 1 and No. 2.
Production performance: Results of the 2000 early-season variety comparison trial: Bayesimiao No. 1 yielded 399 4 kg per mu, an increase of 18 6 kg per mu over the control variety Ye'aosimiao, a 4 9% increase, which was a significant yield increase. Results of the late-season retrial: Bayesimiao No. 1 yielded 395 65 kg per mu, an increase of 47 82 kg per mu over Guiyesimiao No. 1, a 13 75% increase; Bayesimiao No. 2 yielded 400 kg per mu, an increase of 52 17 kg per mu over Guiyesimiao No. 1, a 15% increase. Both yield increases were highly significant, showing outstanding performance. Simultaneous field production demonstrations proved that it has broad adaptability and high, stable yields. In the 2001 late season, the average yield was 446 kg per mu, more than 15% higher than other varieties, and it was highly praised. In general field production, the yield is about 450 kg per mu, and under high-yield cultivation, over 500 kg per mu.
Variety characteristics: Medium-maturing in the early season, with a whole growth period of 122 days. Leaf age is 14 leaves. Short-statured, tolerant of heavy fertilization and resistant to lodging, with a moderately compact plant type, ideal stem form, medium-strong tillering ability, good late-season ripening color, green branches and waxy straw, large panicles with many grains, high seed-setting rate, and a 1000-grain weight of 17 4 g. Glume color: Bayesimiao No. 1 is light yellow, Bayesimiao No. 2 is white. The grains are slender, crystal-clear and pure white, vitreous, with no white belly or white core. The cooked grains are moderately soft and firm with good eating quality. This variety is rough-growing and easy to manage, broadly adaptable, suitable for both early and late seasons, strongly disease-resistant, and high and stable yielding. According to surveys, in general production fields (seedling throwing), the basic seedlings are 7 4 million, the maximum seedlings are 28 3 million, the effective panicles are 18 07 million, the average total grains per panicle is 181, of which 170 are filled grains, the seed-setting rate is 93 9%, and the 1000-grain weight is 18 g. Plant height is 97 3 cm, panicle length is 23 7 cm, flag leaf length is 34 1 cm, and width is 1 9 cm. Experts and professors organized by the Guangdong Genetics Society conducted on-site inspections and generally agreed that this variety has an ideal plant type and stem form, good yield potential, excellent grain quality, strong resistance, and prospects for extension. The Zengcheng variety appraisal meeting unanimously agreed that this variety has broad adaptability, relatively strong resistance, good high and stable yield performance, excellent grain quality, and good eating quality, making it a relatively good new simiao rice variety that can be expanded for demonstration.
Fertilizer and water management for seedling throwing: Seed rate is 1 5 kg per mu. Cultivate age-appropriate strong seedlings, generally throwing seedlings at the 3 5-leaf stage. Apply sufficient basal fertilizer in the field, with 20 kg of phosphate fertilizer per mu. Apply a heavy early topdressing of tillering and stem-strengthening fertilizer, and apply a heavy potassium fertilizer at the young panicle differentiation stage. In the late season, apply appropriate final topdressing. Use water scientifically, expose the field when enough seedlings have been reached, and dry the field moderately at the mid-stage.
