Introduction to Rice Variety 10 You 18 (formerly known as Jin You 9603)

Origin: 10A x R148

Characteristics: This variety is a three-line japonica hybrid rice. When planted in the Huang-Huai region, its whole growth period is 154 days, similar to the control Yujing 6. Plant height is 117.7 cm, total grains per panicle 182.1, seed-setting rate 76.8%, and 1000-grain weight 25.8 g. Rice blast resistance grade 3. Main rice quality indicators: head rice rate 69%, chalky grain rate 38.5%, chalkiness degree 5.3%, gel consistency 93 mm, and amylose content 15.8%.

Yield performance: In 2001, it participated in the regional trial of the Yujing 6 group in the northern rice region, with an average yield of 648.4 kg per mu, 5.3% higher than the control Yujing 6 (not significant); in 2002, in the continued trial, the average yield was 624.3 kg per mu, 3.2% higher than the control Yujing 6 (not significant); the two-year regional trial average yield was 636.4 kg per mu, 4.2% higher than the control Yujing 6. In 2003, the production trial average yield was 528.4 kg per mu, 9.1% higher than the control Yujing 6.

Key cultivation techniques: 1. Grow strong seedlings: sow at the same time as Yujing 6 according to local planting habits, with a sowing rate of 15 kg per mu and a seedling age of 30-35 days; 2. Transplanting: in fields of medium fertility, use a row-to-plant spacing of 23.3 x 13.3 cm, plant 20,000-22,000 hills per hole, and 80,000-100,000 basic seedlings per mu; 3. Fertilizer and water management: base fertilizer should be mainly organic fertilizer, with sufficient nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizer applied. The total nitrogen application per mu is 18-20 kg, and the ratio of base, tillering, and panicle fertilizer is preferably 4:4:2. For water management, transplant in shallow water, tiller in thin water, drain the field at the proper time, then irrigate intermittently, and stop water 6 days before harvest; 4. Pest and disease control: pay attention to controlling rice false smut.

This variety has a moderate maturity period, relatively high yield, good yield stability, moderate resistance to rice blast, and average rice quality. It is suitable for planting in the rice areas along the Yellow River in Henan, southern Shandong, Jiangsu, the Huaibei area of Anhui, and the Guanzhong rice area of Shaanxi.
