Can 2,4-MCPA herbicide be used at the 2-leaf stage of rice?
Rice and other grass-family crops are sensitive to 2,4-MCPA before the 3-leaf stage, and improper use can easily cause herbicide injury to the crop, with symptoms such as deformed young leaves. After the 4-leaf stage, as leaf age increases, tolerance to 2,4-MCPA gradually strengthens, with the strongest tolerance at the peak tillering stage, and sensitivity gradually increases again after jointing. Therefore, in production it is generally required to apply 2,4-MCPA from the 4-leaf stage of rice to before jointing, and the dosage must not be increased at will, to ensure safety to rice.
Nufarm Australia Limited's Agritox 56% MCPA-sodium soluble powder is registered for controlling broadleaf weeds and cyperaceae weeds in transplanted paddy fields, with a recommended pure active ingredient dosage of 420-630 grams per hectare, equivalent to 50-75 grams of formulated product per mu. It is understood that this product is relatively safe for rice, and appropriate reduced-dose use at the young stage of rice is also safe for rice. Generally, at the 2-leaf 1-heart stage of rice, 20 grams per mu can be used; at the 3-leaf 1-heart stage of rice, 30 grams per mu can be used; from the 4-leaf stage of rice to before jointing, 40-50 grams per mu can be used.
