Characteristics and traits of the rice variety II You 92
Breeding institution: Jinhua Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Zhejiang Province.
Approval status: approved by the Zhejiang Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1994, by the Anhui Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1998, and by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1999.
Variety approval number: Guoshendao 990019.
Variety source: II-32A//IR209/Ce64-7.
Characteristics and traits: a temperature-sensitive hybrid medium indica variety. Plant height about 90 cm, compact plant type, thick and tough stems, grains slightly slender, awnless, purple apiculus. Medium to strong tillering ability. Total grains per panicle about 130, seed-setting rate above 80%, 1000-grain weight 25-26 g. Brown rice rate 82.3%, milled rice rate 74.1%, head rice rate 67.0%, transparency grade 1, amylose content 20.7%. The rice has good appearance and good eating quality. Grown as a late double-cropping rice, the whole growth period is about 125 days, 3-5 days longer than Shanyou 64. Tolerant to fertilizer and resistant to lodging, moderately resistant to rice blast, slightly susceptible to bacterial leaf blight. Average yield 400-450 kg per mu.
Key cultivation points: sowing date can be 3-5 days earlier than Shanyou 63. Sow sparsely to raise strong seedlings with tillers; seedling age 30-35 days, and if over 40 days, two-stage seedling raising should be used. Transplant 80,000-100,000 seedlings per mu. Apply sufficient basal fertilizer, topdress early, and emphasize fertilizer to promote flowering. Maintain alternate wetting and drying irrigation in the later stage, strictly avoid cutting off water too early, and pay attention to the control of pests and diseases such as stem borers, planthoppers, and bacterial leaf blight. For seed production, use a reversed sowing interval; the sowing-to-heading period of the restorer line II-32A is 84±2 days, and that of restorer 92 is 74±2 days.
Suitable range: grown as double-season late rice in Zhejiang and southern Anhui; can be demonstrated and planted in other double-cropping rice areas.
