High-yield and High-efficiency Cultivation Technique for Intercropping Garlic with Ginger
This model is suitable for irrigated land in autumn-sown garlic areas. Yield per mu: ginger 2500-3000 kg, garlic scapes 400-500 kg, garlic bulbs 800-1000 kg.
Planting layout
Beds are oriented east-west, bed width 1 m, with 4 rows of garlic planted and 2 rows of ginger intercropped. Garlic is planted in wide and narrow rows, with wide row spacing 30 cm, narrow row spacing 20 cm, plant spacing 6-8 cm, and 33,000-35,000 plants per mu. The 2 rows of ginger are intercropped in the wide rows of garlic, with row spacing 50 cm, plant spacing 12-15 cm, and 8,800-9,500 plants per mu.
Key cultivation points
Apply sufficient basal fertilizer: per mu, use 5000 kg of high-quality farmyard manure, 100 kg of superphosphate, and 100 kg of ammonium bicarbonate, then deep plow 30 cm and make beds.
Sow early at the proper time: autumn-sown garlic should be covered with plastic film, and ginger should be sown in spring; for both, the suitable sowing time is about 10 days earlier than when grown alone. Before sowing, carefully select and treat the seeds. Do a good job of topdressing. For ginger, on the basis of applying sufficient basal fertilizer, topdress 3 times during the growing period in combination with watering. When the seedlings are about 15 cm tall, apply a seedling-promoting fertilizer with 10 kg of urea per mu; when the plants have 2-3 branches, apply a strong-seedling fertilizer with 15-20 kg of compound fertilizer per mu; when entering vigorous growth, apply a heavy topdressing with 40 kg of compound fertilizer per mu. Garlic generally does not need topdressing, but to increase garlic scape yield, about 15 days before harvesting the scapes, apply a scape-promoting fertilizer once with 10 kg of urea per mu, and at the same time spray the leaves twice with 0.5 urea + 0.3 potassium dihydrogen phosphate.
