Introduction to Rice Variety 80 You 151

(1) Variety source: This variety was developed by the Jiangyou City Rice Research Institute by crossing Jiangyu 80A with Jianghui 151.

(2) Characteristics: The full growth period is 147.5 days, 1.3 days longer than the control; plant height is 113.1 cm; seedling vigor is strong; tillering ability and panicle-setting rate are comparable to the control; leaf sheath and apiculus are colorless. Panicle length is 24.6 cm; grains per panicle: 156.4; seed-setting rate 78.38%; 1000-grain weight 29.6 g. Processing and appearance quality are superior to the control, and resistance to rice blast is stronger than the control.

(3) Yield performance: In the 1997 provincial regional trial, the average yield was 563.61 kg per mu, an increase of 2.28% over the control; in the 1998 provincial regional trial, the average yield was 535.80 kg per mu, an increase of 3.58% over the control; in the 1998 production trial, the average yield was 596.4 kg per mu, an increase of 8.5% over the control.

(4) Cultivation key points: 1. Sow early to cultivate strong seedlings with multiple tillers; the seedling age should preferably be 45--50 days; 2. Apply no less than 10 kg of nitrogen, with a nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium ratio of 1:0.5:1; transplant 90,000--100,000 basic seedlings per mu, and drain the field for sunning about 20 days after transplanting.

(5) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for planting in the flatland and hilly areas of our province.
