Brief Introduction to the Characteristics and Traits of the New Glutinous Rice Variety Ningnuo 2
The Ningnuo 2 variety was approved and named at the seventh meeting of the Ningxia Variety Approval Committee. It has the characteristics of high yield and good quality, with a yield of 650 kg per mu and over 750 kg in high-yield fields. In 1987, it participated in the regional trial of glutinous rice and increased yield by 13.9% compared with Ningnuo 1. The breeding of Ningnuo 2 was a successful attempt in the history of high photosynthetic efficiency breeding in China, setting a new record for high yield of glutinous rice in Ningxia. This variety grows neatly and cleanly as a population, has a long leaf functional period, and fast grain filling. It heads in early August and matures in late September, with a growth period of 140-150 days; plant height is 81-86 cm, plant type is compact, tolerant to fertilizer, resistant to lodging, and disease-resistant; tillering ability is extremely strong, with 0.3-3 effective tillers per plant, up to more than 16 at the highest, and a high earing rate; 56-66 grains per panicle, 1000-grain weight 24-25 g; brown rice rate 81%-82%, milled rice rate 72%-75%; the rice has strong stickiness and good palatability. The crude protein content of milled rice is 6.25%, lysine content is 0.34%, total starch content is 82%, crude fat content is 0.76%, crude fiber content is 0.21%, and ash content is 0.45%. It is suitable for planting in all rice-producing areas of Ningxia and is also adaptable to various cultivation methods.
