Introduction to the new glutinous rice variety Shaonuo 97-14
Shaonuo 97-14 is the latest glutinous rice variety bred by the Shaoxing Municipal Institute of Agricultural Sciences, and it passed the Zhejiang Provincial Variety Approval in April 2002. In 1999 and 2000, it took part in the provincial regional trials, where its yield ranked first and second among the tested varieties; in 2000, our city introduced it for trial planting, growing 2.4 mu as a single-season crop, with an average yield of 469 kg per mu, 3% higher than Zhe Nongda 454. In 2002, at the Shengzhou City Improved Seed Farm, in a large-plot variety comparison trial, Shaonuo 97-14 had an equivalent yield of 494 kg per mu, 10.5% higher than the control Shaonuo 97-14; when grown as a single-season crop on 14.34 mu, the average yield was 496 kg per mu; when grown in continuous cropping on 18.8 mu, the average yield was 470 kg per mu, showing good yield potential. Shaonuo 97-14 has good grain quality, coarse grains, white and clean milled rice, and good glutinous quality, reaching the Ministry-issued second-class standard for high-quality rice. Its full growth period as a late continuous-cropping crop is 132 days, belonging to the medium-maturing late glutinous type. It is suitable for planting as a single-season or continuous-cropping late rice in the plains and mountainous areas of our city.
Cultivation points: (1) Sow at the proper time: for continuous cropping, the sowing period is around June 25; for single-season planting in plain areas, the sowing period is early to mid-June. (2) Seed soaking and disinfection: the seeds must be treated by soaking and disinfection with chemicals that have a good bactericidal effect on rice seedling blight (such as "402", etc.), so as to effectively prevent the occurrence of rice seedling blight. (3) Pest and disease control: during the seedling stage, control rice thrips and bacterial leaf blight well; because this variety is prone to infection by ear-neck blast in severely affected rice blast areas or under unfavorable weather conditions of low temperature and high humidity later on, measures such as applying nitrogen fertilizer appropriately, applying phosphorus and potassium fertilizer in combination, and draining the field in time should be adopted to promote steady growth, and spraying tricyclazole from the breaking stage to the full heading stage, so as to prevent the occurrence and damage of ear-neck blast; in addition, control work for sheath blight, rice planthopper, stem borer and other pests and diseases should also be done well.
