Introduction to the New Late Glutinous Rice Variety Zhemuo 36
Zhemuo 36 was approved in March 2003 at the 27th Variety Approval Meeting of the Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee. In the 2000 Jinhua regional trial, the average yield per mu was 483.1 kg, an increase of 14.7% over the control Xiushui 11, with a highly significant difference; in the 2001 Jinhua regional trial, the average yield per mu was 470.5 kg, an increase of 5.97% over the control Xiushui 11, reaching a highly significant level, with a two-year average increase of 10.3% over the control. The average whole growth period over two years was 128 days, similar to the control Xiushui 11. In the 2001 production trial, the average yield per mu was 437.1 kg, an increase of 11.26% over the control Xiushui 11. The two-year regional trial average number of effective panicles per mu was 195,600, with 85 filled grains per panicle, a seed-setting rate of 93.0%, and a 1000-grain weight of 30.41 g. According to identification by the Institute of Plant Protection, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences: moderately susceptible to rice blast, susceptible to bacterial leaf blight. According to analysis by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture: eight indicators, namely brown rice rate, milled rice rate, head rice rate, grain length, length-to-width ratio, alkali spreading value, gel consistency, and protein content, reached the first-grade standard for high-quality rice; the amylose content indicator reached the second-grade standard for high-quality rice. This variety is semi-dwarf, with a compact plant type, medium to weak tillering, large panicles with many grains, high 1000-grain weight, good rice quality, better rice blast resistance than the control, and bacterial leaf blight resistance basically similar to the control. It is suitable for planting in Jinhua, Zhoushan, and ecologically similar areas, and attention should be paid to the control of rice blast in cultivation.
