Characteristics and traits of the new late glutinous rice variety Zhenuo 3
Zhenuo 3 was approved in March 2003 at the 27th variety approval meeting of the Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee. In 1998, in the Jinhua municipal trial, the average yield per mu was 446.0 kg, an increase of 2.5% over the control Xianghu 84; in 1999, in the Jinhua municipal trial, the average yield per mu was 405.9 kg, an increase of 5.4% over the control Xianghu 84, with a two-year average increase of 3.95% over the control. The average whole growth period over the two years was 125.9 days, 1 day shorter than the control Xianghu 84. In the 2000 production trial, the average yield per mu was 437.7 kg, an increase of 9.1% over the control Xianghu 84. The two-year regional trial average was 238,400 effective panicles per mu, 74.55 filled grains per panicle, a seed-setting rate of 87.65%, and a 1000-grain weight of 26.42 g. According to identification by the Institute of Plant Protection of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences: moderate resistance to rice blast and bacterial leaf blight. Analysis by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture: six indicators - brown rice rate, milled rice rate, length-to-width ratio, alkali spreading value, gel consistency, and protein content - reached the first-grade standard for high-quality rice; the amylose content indicator reached the second-grade standard for high-quality rice.
This variety is semi-dwarf, with a compact plant type, moderate tillering, good threshability, and significantly better resistance to rice blast than Xianghu 84, with slightly better resistance to bacterial leaf blight than Xianghu 84. It is suitable for planting in Jinhua, Quzhou and ecologically similar areas. When cultivated as continuous late rice, attention should be paid to controlling seedling age to prevent early heading.
Key cultivation techniques:
1. Sow at the appropriate time. Zhenuo 3 has a relatively short growth period and is sensitive to both photoperiod and temperature, so the seedling age generally should not exceed one month. For sowing as continuous cropping rice, it can be sown from June 20-30. For single-season planting, it can be sown in early June. For early-season planting, it is best to sow from March 20-25.
2. Cultivate strong seedlings with sparse sowing. The sowing rate per mu should be below 30 kg. It is advisable to apply sufficient base fertilizer and more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer and organic fertilizer. Apply weaning fertilizer at the three-leaf stage, and apply starting fertilizer 5 days before transplanting.
3. Strengthen fertilizer and water management. The amount of fertilizer applied should be adapted to local conditions, with the total fertilizer amount reaching a medium level. Excessive N fertilizer should be avoided in the later stage, and the field should be kept alternately dry and wet until maturity to avoid affecting the seed-setting rate and grain plumpness.
4. Control diseases and insect pests. Before sowing, soak the seeds with "402" or other antibiotics to prevent bakanae disease. At the heading stage, spray with jinggangmycin to prevent sheath blight and rice false smut.
